BMW recalls diesels for HPFP issues

Saw this posted on another forum, figured it deserves mention here.

BMW is recalling a large number of cars with the N47 and N57 diesel motors for HPFP issues. It pretty much confirms what the common-rail diesel community suspected for years on the Bosch CP4 pump:

In early 2021, it was shown that the valve lifter of a certain pump build level configuration has a higher tendency to be affected due to the use of biodiesel aging products and low viscosity fuel. Additional factors such as the pump’s roll and cam profile were thought to contribute to performance degradation and unwanted pump wear for this build level configuration.

Good on BMW for doing this. AFAIK, this is first time a manufacturer has acknowledged an issue with the pump.

Thanks for posting. Just last week picked up a used 2015 X5 35d and will see if needs to be done.

Thank you. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2017 328d. While it only has 22k miles everything is out of warranty. I was going to immediately delete everything but I'll wait to get this recall done of the CP4.
