There is no 528d. You probably are referring to the 535d (straight 6, 255hp, 413 lb-ft)Ya, I looked at the 528D too... Sticker was twice what I just paid for a new JSW...
Stinks, but that is the American market for you, but I read somewhere that the torque out-put was to great for manual, which is ridiculous. Plenty of vehicles with more torque than this car with a manual transmission. No manual![]()
If you can afford it, is it being a sucker?Maybe in 4 years when the used price is half what they sold for new. Gotta love the suckers who pay full price for these cars new then trade in every couple years.
Nope!If you can afford it, is it being a sucker?
Where are you going to buy a house for $42K? Detroit? Tijuana?Prices on the BMW's are heart stopping. I love my E46 and would consider a diesel if they 1) had a dipstick, and 2) had real tires with a spare. Oh and did not cost what you can buy a house for in many places...
I don't know about the engine in the 328d but the 3.0L engine in my 535d DOES in fact have a dipstick. It is not labeled and is undocumented but it's there.Prices on the BMW's are heart stopping. They DO! the non-xDrive version is RWD. xDrive is BMW's badging for their AWD system. You can get the 328d with or without xDrive. It's not quite that inexpensive. You have to come up with nearly $4K at signing, that's another $100+ a month. Don't know if that includes gap insurance, which would be important. If you're writing it off maybe it doesn't matter.
I like the 328d, and if they had a wagon with RWD not AWD, a manual transmission, and no run-flat tires I'd be interested. But as it sits, no thanks. I'll stick with my Golf.
You can buy the same car in Europe with a stick. (which most people do, automatic has 25-30% take rate)Stinks, but that is the American market for you, but I read somewhere that the torque out-put was to great for manual, which is ridiculous.
Sedan only. Wagons are all xDrive. They DO! the non-xDrive version is RWD. xDrive is BMW's badging for their AWD system. You can get the 328d with or without xDrive.

Lease the BMW 328D for $399/month. If you don't like it, then walk away at the end of the lease. Makes lots of sense as a business expense.
Wagon is only offered as AWD over here- gasser or diesel...The wagon is x-drive only when it has the diesel option ...
Ditto... at that price level I'm not buying it/or leasing it. I don't think it is worth it. I have a slightly different approach. I'm going get a used (don't care if I buy a new car ever again) Merc or BMW, and then wait until the new Audi's are used and at a reasonable price level for me, and then I'll move over to one hopefully with a manual gearbox. It's not quite that inexpensive. Just using for comparison. The run down beaters are popular with those that buy and then rent, you know the slum lords. (of which I am not)If run-down beater houses is your style, then you probably wouldn't be looking at BMWs in the first place.![]()
