Call your dealership before going in. For some reason, this update was not listed as available for my VIN. I'll try checking again in a week or so...

This update is listed as being for ALL 2012 and 2013 vehicles with the RCD-510 except the Routan, Touareg, and Jetta Hybrid. It says so right on the TSB.

Exactly. That is what I thought I had conveyed.

This update which applies to my vehicle is being rejected by my dealership because for some reason the VW service system has not linked my VIN to this update. So, I was warning others to first check with their dealership to see if they'll perform the service.

Your dealership isn't reading the documentation correctly. The VIN range should span ALL 2012 and 2013 VINs (with the exception of the ones listed above).

Perhaps they are entering your VIN into the system to check for updates and it isn't showing up... hence why I said to enter the TSB number, which clearly states that it applies to all vehicles.

If your dealership still won't do it, call VW Customer Care and explain the situation to them.

Took mine in monday. After a couple of hours they told me they were having difficulty getting the update to take and that it kept failing. They gave me a loaner for the day. Called the next day with success. Tried it with 3 different phones and I can confirm it works. There were also a few other "fixes" too. For example if you have more then one page or presets it now scrolls thru the pages as you scan.

FWIW it does it with my BB 9900 as well. It also hangs the phone about 20% of the time when I exit the car. Have to pull the battery to reset the phone.

2012 Passat with Fender system.

So, after my dealership refused to do the update, I had to get VW Customer Service involved. VW contacted them, and hopefully I'll get it fixed this week..

Just sat with the tech and showed him all 3 complaints... And how they work... Or don't depending how u look at it. They pulled it in and are pulling up the software change now. Tsb's aren't like recalls.. Gotta work them a little ;-) but the proof is in the update notes.

Update: apparently there is an update to the update... Was just informed there is a new revision to this tsb... Will post when I get info.

Hopefully it fixes the new problem of the system not restoring to the previous screen (presumably radio of some sort) after you hang up a phone call (or when Waze pushes a Bluetooth traffic alert).

I'd love to hear what the update to the update actually does.

I forgot my PPW at home so I'll have to get the updated TSB# later on tonight and post it for all.

oK, walk me through what you want me to check here... I read it like this... talk on the phone, hang up and hope it goes back to radio playing? Or the actual screen defaults back to radio/SD card /blue tooth streaming again? AFAIK mine has always sat on the phone screen and the radio commences playing after you hang up. You have to actually hit the "radio or media" button to see whats playing...

1. I can confirm that audio has improved and the lvls have been brought to a normalized lvl... (no more turning your volume down on your phone to cut out the distortion at higher lvls)

2. Bluetooth does not auto start playing anymore after your phone syncs to your car. UNLESS you click on the Bluetooth audio button on the screen.

3. When I first started after the update I wasn't getting tagging or composer names it only said BT audio... streaming (Pandora). I then shut off the radio... quit the app on the phone... restarted the app on the phone, turned on the radio and tagging was there... The steering wheel controls also can now skip to the next song on Pandora... (this may or may not have been in the update)

4. It took the dealership about 3 hours to complete. And I physically had to show the tech what it was doing prior to him installing this update. Make sure you can replicate the issues that VEEDUB outlined in his original write up on the TSB or the Dealer will basically tell you to pound sand.:D

I dont know jf it was update related but ui of the radio looks to have changed for the worse. The buttons look like a bad 8bit atari rendering. On top of that there is the faded red almost pink border around everything like my radio is displaying a tribute to that susan b cancer lady that runs marathons every weekend.

When you're done with a phone call, it should return to the previous radio screen (unless your previous screen was the phone screen). The radio audio will automatically resume but sometimes it stays on the phone screen, which is mildly annoying.

Item #3: Steering wheel controls were functional in Pandora prior to this update.

Item #4: It's definitely important to do your homework before arriving at the dealership so that you know what you're talking about and how to demonstrate the problem. (see below*)

* for iPhone users, you can replicate the mono audio problem by going into Settings > General > Accessibility > Mono Audio [ON] > drag the slider left and right

^^ This.. I noticed a slight fade from top to bottom as well, lighter on the top than the bottom. Some color variations are noticeable as well. That being said, This could just be me not doing my homework but I never noticed that they have a section to adjust the screen brightness now with presets. IE: darker, lighter etc.. I adjusted said settings and almost got it looking normal again... It was 1 degree this morning when I started it up so on my commute I don't think the LCD ever defrosted from its "cold discolored" state.

Screen brightness has always been an option. Cold weather makes LCDs look funny. The update didn't change the screen display quality in any way.

It's a nice sunny 70 today and I checked my screen brightness setting and it was already set for dark. Maybe the next update will improve the graphics.

I had the update completed on my 30k service a few days ago.

I printed out the TSB posted a few pages back and showed the service writer then number. He had never heard of it but went ahead and put it on the work order.

Went to pickup the car a few hours later. Service writer said tech was able to update the software. Driving home I could not even get the phone to connect to the bluetooth and I was starting to get real annoyed. However, all it required was a phone reset and everything started to work again.

After driving for a few days I can confirm that there is no longer a bluetooth autoplay! This is great for me becasue with audiobooks, the old software would constantly have me rewinding to find my spot. Also, the blaring volume is no longer an issue and the sound quality is improved.

Make sure you reset you iPhone after you have the update done. Then everything should work great.

Overall I am much happier with the Bluetooth now.

I had a similar experience with mine. However my service manager was less than thrilled about finding it on a forum. He told me he couldn't look it up by a TSB number. I find that hard to believe since so many others here have been able to get it done with the TSB number. I had to make sure Bluetooth was off in my car before I'd get into it or I'd lose my podcast or audiobook location. Now I'm able to use the Bluetooth audio and not be fiddling with turning it on and off all the time. And the battery life last longer since the phone isn't playing the whole time.

I deleted and then added the Bluetooth connection to the car to fix my problems. I had some portions that worked but PTT and some calling functionality did not work until the reset.

After putting it off for months, i Finally got around to driving to the dealer which is 40 mins away to have the update done, they had never even heard of the issues...said it would take 2 hours, but took f'n 4! Luckily I had the tsb number from here or they woulda never been able to pull it off! Just got home so I haven't played with it much but the Bluetooth no longer autostarts playing music and the sound quality is a lot better. However it no longer is showing album info on the display...any ideas? Maybe I need to delete the phone and re-pair? Tech let me see software version which is 20120703A

Removing and adding the pairing back to the phone helped with some of the quirks I had after the update. It's quick and easy to give it a try.

Not sure this applies. In our cars I would suspect possibly some setting to module 2E (Media Player) or possibly module 77 (Telephone). I'll look at it this weekend. I'm a noob with VW programming, so I'm still playing around.
The 9WZ is Europe-Only, unless you upgraded.
