This time i am pretty sure i just blew up my turbo cuz i was doing some test run with the car and PSSSSSSST !!! at 2700rpm no turbo boost ( well only 5psi boost) and this time the PSSSST!!! came from under the hood near the passenger ... hmmm turbo is there !!!

Question: my car is still running even if the turbo is dead. is it dangerous to use the car even if the turbo is dead.... meaning: can i use the car by shifting at 2000rpm MAX so before the turbo open boost pressor. Or i really have to wait ''1month'' before Kerma send me a turbo.

Observation: it would be weard to go to tdifest in 6 days with a car that doesn't work at all !!!

man ho man what did i just do !!! lol

Was the Check Engine light on before this happened?

Is it on now?

Any smoke?

I can't help but laugh a little bit. I blew my turbo this morning too! Lost all boost and must have blew a seal because it drained all the oil out the engine and sent a good portion of it out the exhaust!! My car is an absolute mess, just hope the engine is okay. Trying to get a hold of a local VW shop so they can take a look at before I order the new turbo...

Ce la vie!

question... are you under warranty.. if so.. make them fix it.. also where u able to turn the car off via the key?? if so im thinking ure ok unless the engine ran out of oil before you relized and then turned the car off and there might be head damage and bearing damage...
what were you doing to blow the kp39?? there supposably twice as dependable then the vnt15.... also how come u have PD race injectors waiting to be put in?? are you gong to blow the air to make any use of thesE?

At least look under there before you take it in. You may have simply split a hose, or maybe one of the spring clamps failed and you blew off a hose.

If your Car is still making a PSSST sound that usually means you have a leak and your turbo is still making boost!

2nd; What makes you think that you have to wait a month for a new turbo from KERMA? Is this the 2000 TDI you list on your signature? If so call him I'm pretty sure he can send you somthing for your car in a lot less time!:)

No more warranty. I drove ~1/4-1/2 mile before I shut off the car. I assumed the smoke was just a result of being overfueled. As soon as the oil pressure light came on I shut the car off.

The race injectors are actually in and have been for a while. The turbo was pushing ~25psi sustained. I guess that's a little too much. It didn't seem to have any trouble with 20-22psi...

Below your signature you asked if you should replace your KP39 with either a VNT20 or the PD Stealth.

Personaly, I would talk to KERMA about the PD1852!:D :D :D

It spools up like a 15 or KP39 But it will hold 24lbs of boost all the way through the torque curve clear into "red-line" and wants to keep on going! It will do that ALL DAY LONG! It has been reported that the EGT's rarely go over 850*F. The good thing is no modifications needed to your exhaust or intake!:D

Is that the same as the PD100 Stealth? I talked with Paul at KERMA yesterday and the 1852 is the one I'm leaning towards:D

No, The PD100 Stealth is an upgraded KP39, The PD1852 is a Garrett hybrid that is the largest you can go before you get into the VNT20 series. It is really FANTASTIC for a street driven car. The only turbos that will pull away from you (from about 90-110mph) are the ST series II and III VNT20's from KERMA.

Yes and no, KERMA originaly began this hybrid with the 1749VB exhaust side and moved on to use a full blown 18 wheel! And YES, it works very well on the ALH (ask guns112):D . However with minor modification also works well on the PD too! :)

Another option is a VNT-17 that Garrett is making with the PD actuator. I am hoping to get these shortly, we have one installed in BlueCTTDi's car. Runs nice with RC3 in a PD. No lag, nice strong power. And I think it would advanage the race nozzles.

Yeah, KERMA already has those too, but you still would only have a 17:confused: . The 1852 is a KERMA exclusive!:D

What are the warranties on a turbo if your engine light and oil had not come on and you shut the car off immeadiatly when the pssst occured when you blew the supposed turbo? Can you send it back to the garrett?

Does Charlie get these direct from Garrett? If so, that's great. I thought they weren't producing them in volume yet, but I haven't talked to anyone there in a week or two.

If you have a new or remanufactured turbo from Garrett then you can send it back to your supplier. Garrett inspects the turbo and makes a determination about whether the fault is because of a manufacturing defect, installation issue, or abuse. If it's a manufacturing defect they warranty the turbo. I've only had one or two sent back in the past year, and both have been approved for replacement by Garrett.

I'd have to agree here... but if it turns out you DO need a turbo, if KERMAs got one in stock he can get it to you with a quickness, if needs be... I blew my stock vnt15 up the fri after thanksgiving, gave Charlie a call and he went out of his way to make sure I got a new vnt17 the next day... Car was back on the road that Sat. afternoon... If your willing to pay the shipping, he will do what he needs to... It turned out to be cheaper for me than having to pay for a rental for a number of days, esp since it went when I was at my folks place an hour away...

What is Kerma's warranty on his 1852 and all his other custom turbo offerings? Cant be the factory warranty because they are reworked and would fall on his turbo builder.

The only case I can think of so far is Joevat's hybrid turbo which had a leaking oil seal from day one. Seem to remember it got replaced fairly quick which is a good sign.

So is it 1 week, 1 year? Does it depend whose tuning you are running?
