I have an 06 jetta that i bought a month ago. I didn't get and owners manual with it. Anyhow It had a yellow wrench light when i first turn the key. right under the time. the odometer goes away and its in line with the mileage word. it used to have a number under it. I think it was an oil change reminder. (with the maintenance record that I have that seems right).. anyhow when the mileage reduced past zero it turned red and blinks. I already changed the oil.. So I have a red blinking wrench light when I turn the key. It goes away after a few seconds and the odometer comes back. .... How can I reset this light. I already asked one fellow and he didn't have the light or know what it was about. Help.

With the Key in the off position, hold down the trip meter -> then turn the key on (still holding down the trip meter), then push the M for the clock setting (still holding down the trip meter reset).

Additionally, this WILL NOT, reset your trip meter if you are paranoid about it like me.

Enjoy!

thanks

Thanks, that did it. So the light is a reminder for an oil change? 10,000 or 8,000 miles? I guess I'll find out in a couple of months.

It depends how it was set. If the settings are wrong, the reminder might come up even after 5,000 miles. Besides that, I don't think 8k or 10k will make a big difference. Just having 10k OCI might set your intervals to be "round numbers".

After having a camshaft failure I'll do my oil changes each 6,215 miles needle-accurate (it's 10,000 kilometers). I'd better spend more money on oil than replace my cam & stuff again....
