Blank on the Fuel Gauge?

I was rolling down the road when I realized nothing was displayed on the mfd, just the odometer was there. The fuel gauge showed the arc, but didn't have any bars, even though I knew it was full. The readout above didn't show any information either (MPG, air temp, etc).

It only came back on after shutting it down and restarting the car.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Any thoughts?

Yep....I chalk it up to VW eccentric electronics. I was cleaning the windshield today and the wipers took a swipe at me.

That it the automatic feature where when it sees a human that's about to splat against the window it turns the wipers on to be sure to clear the guck off. I thought all cars had it..

Just had the same thing happen to my car. Got in this morning and the MFD section that usually shows MPG or temperature etc. was blank. Fuel gauge also blank...

Whalenuts,
Did you get yours fixed?

I had the same issue at 9k. Took it straight to the dealership, and when they started it back up to bring it inside, the fuel gauge came back. They told me that there was nothing they could do until it occured perminantly. WONDERFUL!

I had this happen a while back. It only happened once and, as stated above, it was fine once I shutdown and restarted. I'm not too concerned about it.

Although, considering my 2000 Jetta developed an issue with the locking system that was similar to a game show...guess which doors will lock and which ones will not...maybe I should be a bit more concerned. :D

My car "fixed itself" while I was at work today. I just hope this problem doesn't come back right when my bumper to bumper warranty ends!

Take it in and report it when ever it happens during warranty. Anything reported and not fixed is still covered even though the warranty has expired.

Good luck with that thought. My eos top would stop in middle of going down and stop. Did it at randomly. Took to the dealer top still would not go all the way down in parking lot. The service writer refused to write the code down on the dash during the malfunction. The car was in the shop for days and never acted up for the mechanic so they never fixed it. After that it was in the shop three more times and never could Duplicate the issue. I even made a video and was able to capture the exact reason on video of where the top was catching on a piece head liner fabric. No dice not warranty and I would have pay the entire repair. Btw the car currently has 20k on it and only had 15k when it was in the shop. The car was off warranty due to the age only and the time was 4 years old.
Good luck on getting them to fix anything out of warranty unless the government forces them to.

Same thing happened to me this morning. I started my car this morning to go to work then I looked at my instrument cluster. The digital gas level gauge is blank and I have 200miles left before refuelling. I called the VW Dealer and dropped it off on my way to work. The dealer called me says it's working and they can't get it to duplicate. I have 47K miles on my car. I will make sure they document this and if it goes in next 6-12 months I will have VWOA pay for the repairs. My hpfp failed it's been a month still no check for tow & rental reimbursement> Vwoa customer service rep. let him know now my Digital fuel evel gauge not working and I'm really loosing my confidence in VW product given hpfp failed month ago, now this, plus no reimbursement check yet month has passed. The customer rep. started a case file for this VWOA case manger will contact me Monday by end of business day. I will inform the case manager about this fluke and other owner are or have had the same problem with their cars. I will also let the service writer know as well. I MUST say I have lost my confidence in VW vehicle. I don't want to keep my car past 60k power train warranty because if my hpfp fails second time I don't want to have to fight VWOA to try to have them pay for 2nd hpfp failure of $5300.00 repairs. My hpfp failed at 41k who knows when its going to fail 2nd time.

Any thoughts what i should replace this car with? I love the car for the great mileage, torque. etc.. but i can't afford hpfp failure repairs. Even if i put in micron 2 kit at $500.00 plus when hpfp fails to replace the hpfp just the part costs like $800-1000.00, very expensive part. I will loose too much money if I get rid of this car but then again to repair hpfp failure cost is too expensive.

sorry for rambling on, just getting my frustratons out. Any opinions or thoughts.

Plenty of opinions of who is better. I used PS Grey and also white bottle for year and when I switched to opti lube XPD I noticed right away the difference. More mpg and quiet motor.

If i forget to refill my bottle so my XPD doesnt go in the tank right away I notice a difference. The first time it happened I had forgot that I had NO XPD and when the engine felt different it reminded me. So its not a placebo effect.

I have to agree with you. I switched in Feb to opti lube and here in Michigan its still cold in feb. the first morning using opti lube I stated my car and started to back down the driveway and stopped because i forgot my cell phone in the house. When i got out and heard the motor running it was so so quiet and no diesel clatter that I had been hearing all the time previous to opti lube use. It was purring like a kitten. Mileage improved right away too.
