Well, as luck would have it, I've secured the projector to the reflector housing a little TOO well... As such, I can't get the rotational alignment fixed without taking the headlight apart again. For now I'm going to live with it, however I will more than likely down the road repeat the process.

I'll see if I can get some cutoff views later tonight.

How about those night shots, eh?

CLICK ON ANY IMAGE FOR THE FULL SIZE

Pattern (after some quick alignment to mostly-remove the rotational issues on the passenger side)...

Little bit of overexposure on the camera... Heh. Nowhere near as much throw-off from the housings as it looks like, as you can tell from the cutoff (no light above the pattern).

Drivers side, without flash... Still a lot of overexposure.

Drivers side, with flash... Better indicator of the 'true' color of the bulb. Side note, man the headlights get dirty quick.

Too much glare!!!! :D you should just drop in the HID kits! lol j/k

this is great, hats off to you for having the balls to do this.

I really like to see the back of the housing. Need to know where would be a good place to start cutting.

Well 'this weekend' is turning into this coming week... That being said, yes it's the only way to do HIDs on the Jetta.

To keep everyone occupied until I get the DIY done...

Bulbs starting up, using the side of the Chinese food place for the reflection. :D

You'll notice the right side's rotational alignment being off... I aligned it properly vertically, just on the wrong side! (I'll have to explain that one later)

Nice cut off. Nice to see someone willing to do the work for proper HIDs, not popping them in reflector housings

Yeah, few things have come up keeping my time from the computer (which is why I've mostly been posting on my phone this week). Have some things to take care of over the new few days as well, so maybe this weekend yet again? OY. Wish there were more hours in a day.

$520.00 for the Stage IV, $15 for the rubber glue.

Edit: Just noticed they have a CAN-bus H7 wiring harness available on their page... Emailed the to see if I can swap the relay setup for it. If not, I might have to order yet another part... Oy.

With the canbus adapter cable is there anything different to do? Is it still just plug and play?

Where is the sense of humor? I guess the little emoticon didn't help anything.

Awesome work Jared; very inspirational. I have a black TDI as well and am planning on doing the same retrofit over winter break. I'm thinking of ordering some FX projectors--do you think these will fit? They seem like they're the same size as the TSX projectors. How is the write up coming along?

I wanna do this, but I dont want the big chrome plated shrouds. I want the shrouds like in the Mk5 GTI/GLIs, where they glow when on. Would I be able to use the smaller lenses or are the TSX the best route? I noticed you cant get the smoked shrouds with the TSX lenses in this kit, which was referred by a VWOC buddy:

Sorry for the delay guys, needless to say it's been a while... Had quite a bit going on in the RL that's caused me to be away from the site for a while.

To answer quickly on the past couple of questions...

You should be able to make pretty much any projector fit without issue, I but I personally wouldn't go larger than 2.5 inch projectors (which is what the TSX projectors are).

As for the write up, I'll have to start it again!

how did you remove the headlights?

I removed them with a few torx bits and some careful maneuvering... Removing the bumper isn't necessary, but it would make life easier if you have the time to do it.

You can use any shroud you like, as well any projector. I mainly chose the TSX projectors due to the popularity and OEM equipment... While I wouldn't say they're the 'best' route, I will say they worked out just fine.

The only thing I would have done differently at this point, would be using bi-xenon projectors for the high beam light.

I will be ordering a second set of headlights in the near future in order to redo both lights, as well as add a few new features that I'd like to have (including LED DRLs).
