So I spoke to the salesman of an idustrial supply company who sells Biodiesel in Baltimore.

$3.25 per gallon. Sold in 55 gallon drums or 5 gallon containers.

The address is 28B Thomas Ave Baltimore, MD. He said not to mapquest it so here are some detailed directions.

Coming over the Hanover Street Bridge(exit off of I-95 heading north)

After passing Patapsco Ave, Turn Right onto Bellgrove Road

Follow for 3/4 mile to Thomas Ave and turn left.

Look for a building that says BRUCE MURDOCH - industrial plumbing supply. They are in the back of that building.

Contact number 410-258-5389 Don Jones

Hours 9:00am-3:00pm Monday-Friday.

Seems a little pricey, Lito. Is the Taylorsville Shell still selling BD? If so, what's their current price? I haven't been out there for a while.

Yes, as of a few weeks ago Taylorsville was still selling the stuff. Price was something like $3.30 or so for B100.

So the $3.25 is not so bad considering it's B100.

L
Not bad at all considering that B20 here in the Dover Delaware area cost $2.66 a gallon.

I just saw this on Biodieselnow.com.

I do need to caution you - DO NOT BUY ANY product from Taylor Oil - particularly "biodiesel". I bought six (5) gallon pails on 03/ 22. When I got home, I was curious about the label "ADM Distilled Methyl Answers". Sean, the manager, who had been responding to my calls - suddenly went silent. A month later when I threatened to return the product, he turned me on to his manager. His manager says they are selling it this way to avoid taxes and he would send me info verifying that it really is biodiesel. I never heard back from him. I called ADM - they said it is NOT biodiesel and should not be used in vehicles!!!! I returned the product - but now Sean will not return my money - although he has said twice he will.... in his last letter to the Better Business
Bureau, Sean says the only reason he would consider a refund is so that I would "go away". He described the general public as "demand[ing] your every attention for a $97.00 sale that we made $12.00 profit before overhead expenses are deducted. They fail to due their due diligence in investigating a product that they're willing to put into a $30,000.00 vehicle".

I hope my diligence is your warning - STAY AWAY from Taylor Oil!!!

Please contact me for any more details on this fraud.

Lito, I'm confused... what/who is Taylor Oil, and what does it have to do with this company that's selling the BD?

Did I miss a connection somewhere?

I'll have to pick some up....

Coming from the South, here are alternate (easier) directions...

1. I-95 N towards BALTIMORE/NEW YORK.
2. I-695 outer loop towards GLEN BURNIE. 3.4 miles
3. Merge onto MD-170 N via EXIT 6A toward N LINTHICUM. 1.8 miles
4. Turn RIGHT onto THOMAS AVE. <0.1 miles

nate,

The biodiesel they sell in Taylorsville is from Tevis oil. They also sell biodiesel at the Bare Truck Center in Westminster. When I called them to ask if it was B100, they told me that the fuel at the Truck Center was just B2 (not B20) and that if I wanted B100, I would need to go to the Shell in Taylorsville.

Taylor Oil is apparently the distributor of the Bio D from the industrial supply company in Baltimore. TEVIS oil is the distributor for the Shell station. Two different companies. The stuff from Tevis comes from New England. Aparently, this stuff from Taylor is from Virginia.

That post is quoted from Biodieselnow.com. Aparently someone had that problem with this place. I don't know the original poster or the poster who pulled up the original thread.

So this is all third party. Just be careful. Maybe someone can smell it, those who know what biodiesel smells like?

How else do we check it's authenticity?

Mikey, you have to take their container. They won't let you bring your own.

That post also said that they bought the "biodiesel" in March of (presumably) last year. They might have improved by now or something. It's pretty close to me. I drove by there yesterday and was thinking of stopping but didn't have time. I might be able to swing by tomorrow to pick up a 5-gallon container. Should I?

I thought it was Tevis up in Taylorsville...memory lapse Interesting you mention the Taylor Oil supply coming from VA...as there were several posts on biodieselnow.com from someone who had been by a plant on I-64 and bought B100 at about $2.25 a gallon... No mention of the plant associated or owned by ADM...so those containers up with the Taylor Oil supplied biod could just be what's laying around...no harm no foul...just an idea.

This is where it all got started:

http://forums.biodieselnow.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=630&whichpage=2

where someone said:

I recently posted that Taylor Oil now has biodiesel in Baltimore, MD for $16.25 (5 gallon pail).

The sheet on the outside of the pail listed "Distilled Methyl Esters" and "ADM product code 040051". I tried to check with the manager, but did not receive a response. I called ADM - and they said this is NOT biodiesel and should not be used. They said it is "close" and could easily be converted to biodiesel - but it is definitely not B100 meeting the ATSM D 6751 spec.
If they are selling something that is properly labelled as biodiesel these days, I guess there isn't a concern, but if they are still selling the distilled methyl esters, it is still kind of an open question.

Did anyone ever purchase biodiesel from this place? I emailed John Cusack (email found on biodeisel.org) and he said it was 2.99 a gallon in baltimore. I wouldn't mind buying a pail and maybe having it tested, but what the hell do I do with the left overs if it isn't biodiesel? Is there a good place to have a sample tested?

I have purchased from the industrial supply company in Baltimore. ONE time-- I belive it was early March of last year (2 years ago maybe) and I may have been one of the folks posting on the Biod forums that is referred to above. I purchased 15 gallons-- these were hand-pumped out of a 55 gallon drum which did have "Distilled Methyl" on the side. I didn't see the words Biod anywhere. What came out was CHUNKY and smelled sort of funky --like maybe Biod that had soured and gone bad or something. I was assured that the "chunkiness" was due to the cold weather and that it would settle out when things warmed up (though it wasn't all that cold when I bought it). The chunkiness did go down a little bit but there was a sludge/residue left at the bottom and the stuff just stank to high heaven (almost like vinegar but not the same). As I didn't want to just dump it (I wasn't sure it was so benign as Biod is supposed to be and feared it might be toxic) I blended about a gallon or so over the next 10 to 12 fills and then changed my fuel filter (I did just dump the sludge). Though convenient to me (or more so than any of the other Biod retailers), I'd never buy again.
