I found out the hard way the belt on the BEW is dual sided, but noticed the pulley on the tensioner is smooth. I ordered this a few years back from ID Parts and they speced it for the car. Should it be grooved? My other BEW does have the grooved pulley. Any other BEW folks have a smooth one?

Yes. My BEW serpentine pulley are smooth. The belt on BEW both side are glooved.

I never really paid much attention to the one in my Jetta and it wasn't until I had one fail that I got confused, thinking it should be grooved - because the old one came out with grooves!

The AC pulley bearing failed and overheated the pulley. The excess heat transfered through the belt to the tensioner pulley and melted it.
