Best value from loyalty card if buyback is likely?

Hi guys,

Cards will expire soon.

I still have about $200 on the dealer card, I initially bought oil and filters for the TDI, but given that the chances of keeping the car are low. What would be the recommended things one could get at the dealer for that amount, non VW related?

Looking for Best value for the money. I could get regular oil but if they overcharge compared to Walmart then it would not be the best choice...but if its either overpriced oil or loose the money I'll go for the oil. I just wanted to get your opinions for those that have done the research.

Thanks in advance

Their Camelbak (http://www.drivergear.vw.com/Product/Golf-Gulp-Water-Bottle-DRG016284-12883.htm) water bottles are a good value. Same with their travel coffee mug. I've used the crap out of the travel mug I got with my goodwill card. These are things that you can keep around and joke about (VW buying for you) for years to come.

This one looks like it might be a Yeti product.

I've got around $125 left on mine. I'm going in to the local dealer and buy enough oil and a filter to do the next change, a jug of their windshield washer pink stuff, and if there's any money left over I'll just look to the 60K service and buy something for that, maybe an air or fuel filter.

I went to the dealer with a friend who was purchasing a set of winter wheels for his GTI and converted it to cold, hard cash.

Peruse the DriverGear site. They've got lots of miscellaneous stuff -- clothing, laptop bags, flashlights, bicycles, first-aid kits, etc. Chances are you can find something you want there. I did this on Friday, put everything I wanted in the online "shopping cart," printed it out, and took it to my local dealer on Saturday. They make semi-regular orders from DriverGear and will add my stuff to their next order.

One caveat is that just about everything on that site has a VW logo on it. If you're taking the buyback and want to wash your hands of VW, you might not appreciate the VW advertising, particularly if it's something that would be visible in public, like clothing. Ditto if you're just opposed to giving a company free advertising as a matter of principle. Of course, if you bear VW no ill will, and don't mind the free-advertising aspect of it, this may not be an issue for you.

I bought 2 tires for my other vehicle through the parts department. I first called and told them I needed two tires unmounted and they gave me a price that was about the same as a local dealer. So I had them ordered and then used my VW card. It wasn't quiet enough for the 20" michelin tires for my Grand Cherokee so I paid the difference. I don't need the tires yet but when I do I just have to buy two more and I got all value for the cards.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Unfortunately, I had some sort of vacuum leak or clogged DPF (take your pick, the dealer didn't have a clue). That used up my dealer card. But I would've bought tires with it.

When do they expire? I was hoping to use both in November when purchasing my next VW?

One year after VW processed your request for them.

In another thread someone said they don't expire they just become "locked" to the dealer where they were issued. You can continue to use them just at that specific dealer. I have been wondering if this is actually true. Has anyone else heard this?

I went down to the dealer and ordered the VW mountain bike. That way I can still get around after they take my car back.

I hate logo items. So I let someone else who loves logoed items buy stuff with it and give me cash for it. I used the cash to buy parts for the Cobra. So thanks VW for helping me build my Ford.

My dealer told me if I still had money on it when time came for it to expire to bring it in to them and they would work something out with me.

I had ~$380 left so I called the VW dealer in Austin Texas, and asked if they'd ship a Yeti cooler to NY. They said yep, no problem. So I got a tundra 45 for $4.71. That was the difference between my card balance and the cooler+shipping.

I'm probably going to use mine to pay most of the cost towards the OEM VW hitch for my Touareg.

This makes me wonder...Has anyone had any luck getting other brand merch or parts at dealers that sell other cars? One of our local VW dealers also sells Volvo, and I would like to pick up a few things from them. Another dealer sells Porsche (which of course is VAG), and I could get some branded gifts for friends. I know it doesn't hurt to ask them, but I thought I would ask the forum what your experiences have been.

Which dealer in Austin? This sounds like a good way to go.

I wanted Audi stuff and one of the VW dealers in this area has an Audi dealership under the same corporate umbrella, at a different physical location. Their parts guy ordered the parts from their Audi dealership in an intra-corporate sale and then sold them to me using the VW dealer card.

Thanks for the datapoint! I assume the dealers just want money, and they don't care what they're selling to get it.

What dealer was that? I will do the same thing since I have the full amount still left on it, thanks.

I'm trying to use my dealer card at the above site but it won't go through. Site states that it can't validate the card. What are you using for the 'card ID' question? Normally this would be the three digit security code but there isn't one on the card.

I just used my balance today at Keffer VW online. I tried to get my local dealership to put my balance on 'my account' for future service, but they said no.
I bought some Satin Mirror caps, Monster Mats, and a USB to MDI cable for my GTI. I used the dealership VW card online, and it authorized online, no phone call necessary.
Make sure you use the numbers on the back of the card. The last three digits are the verification code.

And, if you purchase today(ends 9/30), it says you can submit for a 15% cash rebate. I will hopefully get a check back for $43 bucks too. http://www.vwaccessoriesrebate.com/

I uses my card at the local VW dealer to have the windows tinted on my new Audi A3 Sportback e-tron. After that and using my everywhere card for travel, I've got $13.50 left on it. Wondering if I can spend it all in one place.

How's the e-tron treating you? Looks like a great option.
