Hi all -

A 2012 JSW has joined my Golf in the garage. We need to order snows for it ASAP. Any opinions on what Tire Rack cheap alloys will look good?

My Golf has steelies in the winter, but my wife hates that look. I think steelies look bad-ass in the winter, but to each his or her own.

Now we're all-diesel. And neither station in my town sells diesel. Planning is key!

^^ I second the above comment, as I have done the same. Been doing some looking around for a nice set of black/chrome 17's for summer.

Also, look at going up a sidewall size. It can save you a few bucks a tire ($10-15) at the expense of the speedo running a little slow.

I got the 16" gunmetal Rials on my silver JSW, too, and get compliments from folks who tell me I should keep them on year-round instead of my 17" silver Goals.

But I like the 'seasonal wardrobe change' for my car :) ...bright Goals come springtime, dark snow rims 'round the holidays....

Go find some 5x112 16" OEM alloy wheels on Craigslist or Vortex for cheap. Slap snow tires on that.

I've got 16" Rials...

I put the same Rial wheels on the wife's JSW with winter set up after seeing yours. They were pretty reasonable priced wheels and I now like the look much better than the OEM silver portos.

2011 Golf Sportwagen - really want a F-150.
I'm partial to the Sparcos. Thinking of getting a set for my red GSW.

tell her to suck it up and get the steelies. very cheap, wont have to worry about damage from pot holes and salt/sand.

On second thought, get the steelies and a nice looking hub cap and tell her they are alloys. I would guess that 95% of women would fall for this.

My opinion is not worth to spend any money on 16 or 17 You need go 19. The first I thought its gonna be to big but after installing look not big at all.

He's talking about WINTER tires here. 16" would be the MAXIMUM and you don't want anything wider than a 205 tire on it.

This is what i plan to do. I went 19" for my summer wheels, and will just use my portos next year for winters.

Yep, this is what I did too. 'Went for 17" 225/45ZR Hankook Ventus V12 mounted on Moda MD12. It worked for me because I was looking for elegance before sportiness... without any performance degradation. The obvious advantage of this approach is the optimized size/weight ratio carried over all four seasons.

Meh. Great idea, but i gots nothin' from Boston north. Not that it's snowed much this winter. Maybe i'll just wait until something good does come up. The nice thing about Tire Rack, though, is they'll mount and balance them for free vs. my paying $20 each to mount/balance.
