Hi all,

I expect this thread will have some 'legs' to it since there were so MANY great moments this weekend, and as the biggest 'Fest to date there were more people than ever who got to sample the "TDIclub GTG experience" first hand.

LET THE HIGHLIGHTS BEGIN!

Here's one: Watching Jetter_Sprinta's precious (Mercedes CDI) Freightliner being hustled through its paces in the slow speed course (driven by Phoenix42) and nailing almost all the cones. (Hey, ya missed one!)

Dinner Friday night at the Rock Bottom was great fun too. A ton of people showed up and the table just kept getting bigger and bigger and BIGGER - then started spreading to other tables. Dang we're a sociable bunch!

Those surreal moments when I met people whose posts I've been reading literally for years, face-to-face.

~BeetleGo

Sorry many of you couldn't make it who truly wanted to. Better luck next year!

The first memorable moment that comes to mind is Tomo speechless after the suck, squeeze, bang, blow expression during the brunch!
Lost for words and bright red - now that's memorable!

I'm sure more moments will come to mind later when I'm not so TIRED!

I think this goes without saying, but.... F1 Boston, rocked.

Taking Poet's girlfriend out to teach her to drive stick was fun. "Off the gas! Off the GAS!!!!!!!"

Sushi!!!!!!!!!!!

"losers in the lobby"

"Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow"

Definately meeting people who I've either posted to, or chatted with was awesome. Meeting Harv, rocked. Not the old man I thought he was.

Thanks to you all for coming, and making this year's fest great.

Finding out that my house was once owned by Cliff's aunt was a huge surprise. Who woulda thunk it.

Showing up TDI'less and still having a great time. (BTW the car was up and running within 15 minutes of getting home - the Sprint 764's are playing well with the rest of my set-up).

Meeting folks (really great folks for that matter) who I've "talked" with on line for the last few years.

The spontaneous "losers in the lobby" event was a blast as well!

Everybody - save your old timing belts so we can put them together to change the belt on that NOISY air handler unit on the building next to the parking lot!

After a stressful weekend with enough best moments to crash the site, Scott and I got home to find that our house had been broken into. The theivery was confined to the kitchen (I think the ferocious chinchilla kept them back!) and limited to a couple laptops, my portable hardrive backup (that hurt) and various electronics that were left laying around. I see the destruction people in Florida are feeling, and feel oddly fortunate. Also (credit to Fred might be misdirected) my *good* laptop was with us at the Fest, so Scott can stop shaking from TDIClub withdrawl.

We have tons of pictures and video clips that Scott can post later when he fixes our registration tag line.

I'm having a hard time deciding what was better: getting chipped, talking about my car or the obstacle course.

I'll tell you one thing: Scott pulling off first place for a B4 when MY car was the one we were supposed to enter will cause a bit of domestic unrest till next year!! I have a year of Zaino-ing ahead of me.

Thanks to all for coming, and best of luck to next year's crew!! Let the planning begin!

Yes, we all owe 'poet and JB and the rest of the organizers a BIG and SINCERE THANK YOU for an excellent program this year. It was my first 'fest but it kinda felt like a giant GTG spread across several days
How can you beat that! Many attendees travelled long distances, many new folks showing up with their new cars.

I'd also like to thank the very generous folks that donated all the oil (to me
) and it would be nice if we could identify who those kind people were.

We went to the ocean yesterday and bumped into other TDi-ers down there! I hope all had a safe journey home.

Metalnerd, it was a good to see you again and your ever-expanding product line and you're fortunate to have all the support from your lovely wife. It's great to be able to attach faces to all the names.

Harvieux, I asked 11 different people for assistance in locating you...people had said they had seen you but no one could actually locate you...kinda like that movie...oh, well, maybe next time.

'poet, hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks again and I pity the organizers of the 2005 'fest who will try to meet and exceed such a comprehensive and well organized event

Hi Folks, Doesn't get any better than that, eh? Too many highlights to list but, the best was meeting the fans in person and man, did Jeff of RC do a great job on breaking in that new black top in the parking lot after his magic. One happened to be all four wheels, eh?

DD, I looked for you too and don't know how we could have missed each other. There will be a next time! Later!

No domestic unrest here...

I suppose taking top honors in my class is my personal highlight!

Yes Chris Lots of Zaino coming your way. You know Hamsters have lots of soft fur for buffing.... I know I'll pay for that one....
Will there be hamster fur left over after working more on your car next year?

Chinchillas have way more soft fur than little hamsters... LoL!

The hamster will assist you for next year if you like!

DAMN straight - um - who'da thought detailing product promo materials and a fosters oil can could be so freaking histerical!!!

Everybody - save your old timing belts so we can put them together to change the belt on that NOISY air handler unit on the building next to the parking lot!
ummm... I think maybe Eric needs to bring a scope with him so we can deal with noisy belts at future GTG/Fests

--

Sushi - definately AWESOME stuff - soooooooo good. Wasabi was damn good too!

Sam Adams tour - nothing like sharing a few beers with a massive crowd then going to see the other half and trying a few more...

Looking at the size of the F1 cart and thinking where it would have hit me on my back and thinking - no way would my 6'6" frame fit in there comfortably enough to race the little fast lightweights out there!!!

And like my other post - Meeting the people who've i've corresponded with/read posts from for years - in BeetleGo's case - what like over 5 years of reading his threads!

Very very very cool!

Best moment.... Going 948 miles from Knoxville to Braintree without getting lost thanks to the Navi GPS system.

Worst moment.... visiting sister-inlaw who lives about 10 miles from Braintree, then getting lost thanks to the Navi GPS which doesn't know about The Big Dig. "Make a U-turn if possible"

Best moment.... F1 racing and finally passing the guy in front of you after 7 laps.

Worst moment.... F1 racing and getting a penalty for passing the guy in front of you.

It was overall a great fest! I have been a member for a while, but this was my first Fest. F1 was fun, and so was travelling around and seeing Boston, etc.

I was happy to finally meet people I have been talking to online. Some people were pretty much as I pictured them, and others were waaaay off from what I thought. Well, hopefully I can make it out to next year's fest, and faces will seem familiar this time around.

Really good talking with people. I'd like to send a big thank you to TDIinRI for taking the time to show me around Providence. This was a fantastic trip for me. Too bad the weather ended up cutting it short.

Having the power to be judge, jury and executioner at the Show N' Shine!
(Well, I was one of three judges but still....
)
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
That's why I split the judging between three.
I greatly appreciate your (you, Derf and Beetle-Go) impartial input and ranking for the show.
Thanks also to those who shagged the cones and kept count of the cone carnage in the slalom.
Your help made the events run much more smoothly than I had expected.

Taking Poet's girlfriend out to teach her to drive stick was fun. "Off the gas! Off the GAS!!!!!!!"
GAS?
You mean throttle, dontcha? Or "Give it some DIESEL!"
Ah! Yes. That's it. In a panic, I often revert to when I taught my brother to drive stick on my 91 escort.
