My range shortened when i added the wire. It's like RFID with a push button now, and i haven't carried the fob in years.
I'm closer to Dry Ridge, Im right in between Lexington and Cincinnati. Who do you have work on your car?Wow, and you're in Lexington? I have the twin to your car, just a bit more beat up. lol
I've always done my own work. Have a pretty decent garage set up in my basement.I'm closer to Dry Ridge, Im right in between Lexington and Cincinnati. Who do you have work on your car?
It's the same module as the Mk3 so same stock range. I did the same thing, drilled a hole in the case and ran a piece of wire up the A pillar. What's the range of the B4 keyless? On MK3s its pretty hit or miss and I had a 0-5ft range on my Jetta's keyless module, but I lengthened the antenna with a 10' piece of copper wire, ran it up the A-Pillar, and now its closer to 20-40ft.
Where’d you get the parts? Find new parts or a good parts car? Keyless would be pretty darn nice! It's the same module as the Mk3 so same stock range. I did the same thing, drilled a hole in the case and ran a piece of wire up the A pillar.
Got them on EBay. I think total cost came to like $100 USD. It's the white box alarm module out of an A3. Make sure the fob FCC ID matches the module if you buy them separatelyWhere’d you get the parts? Find new parts or a good parts car? Keyless would be pretty darn nice!
There are writeups for adding aftermarket keyless. You can probably get the whole system cheaper than finding an OEM banjo remote.Where’d you get the parts? Find new parts or a good parts car? Keyless would be pretty darn nice!
There are aftermarket remote options now that work identical to OEM.There are writeups for adding aftermarket keyless. You can probably get the whole system cheaper than finding an OEM banjo remote.
I got my oem fob for $30 in mint condition haha. They're all over ebay for around that price but most look pretty worn by this point. Can just get an aftermarket fob like ajlal said, they work identical as long as the FCC ID matches. Plenty of aftermarket options systems too, can just splice into the vacuum pump wiring. For ease of install though I just went with oem, it's basically PnP save for 1 wire spliceThere are writeups for adding aftermarket keyless. Best B4 modification is a drivetrain swap ......
At least that's what I did with mine
1Z TDi into a VR6 GLX. Factory four channel ABS, bigger front disks, factory EDL / traction control, 'sport' suspension, 15 inch, five bolt wheels, better foam in the seats, leather seat surfaces, factory MFA.It makes me kinda sad to think about how many VR6 B4s, and really VR6 anything, that have been junked over the years because of some catastrophic chain fail that the owner was unable or unwilling to fix.
I've got a GLX I eventually want to swap the brakes from. I just installed new rotors all the way around not too long back so I'm putting it off for a little while.1Z TDi into a VR6 GLX. Heavens, Help us! As much as I'd still like to obtain an automatic B4V TDI, it just ain't gonna happen this time either. I have a manual white 97 B4V GLX on deposit. 135k miles, one owner, receipts since new, beige leather, MFA, traction control, ABS, sunroof :(, CD changer, new struts/shocks...forums.tdiclub.com
Yes, and I've done it, even implemented the stock VR6 lift pump and turned the filler neck into a fuel return/cooler. They still rot like crazy and have the same door handle and window regulator issues as other B4s though. I will say the B4 with its longer wheel base rides much nicer on the highway if comfort is your goal.1Z TDi into a VR6 GLX. As a member of the DDC, I'd keep the airbagThe only feature the GLX has that I care about is the seats. I don't use brakes a lot, and value the simplicity of non-ABS.
I do have a B3 glove box that will go in the B4V. I'm looking forward to that.
