Sept 30th or Oct 7th/8th are all good for me. My parts should be delivered by Fedex on Sept 29th. So I'm ok with both. I will try to make the 8am slot. Do we have to start that early?

Thanks!

Anyone heard from the other folks? IF there are only three of you guys how about you guys making a road trip to Boise? That way we can tackle things other than belts such as fluid changes on the transmissions, intake cleaning etc.

Just an idea if there are only 2 belts.

My apologies. I haven't checked the thread for a few days. I am still in. I don't have the parts yet. I guess it would be too close to get them on Saturday, unless there is another suggestion. I could do it on Sep 30th or Oct 7th, as long as the parts part :) can be solved. I think if we give a few more days we could perhaps get quorum.

Cheers :)

Drivbiwire and others,

I have not heard from anyone either via e-mail or my cell phone so I am assuming that we are NOT on for this weekend at my place !!! Pls confirm ASAP if others have a different opinion.

I'd love a road trip to Idaho but since I just did Milwaukee to San Francisco, to collect my TDi bug, i'll sign up for the next trip.

No dice for this weekend, we only have 3 and I have to have 7 to make the 18 hours of driving worth it...I think you guys can understand that.

See if you guys can get a hold of the rest, we only need 4 more to make this happen on the 7th.

I would volunteer to do it, but I am swamped at work, at least until next Wednesday. My suggestion would be to post a link to this thread in other forums that get more visits, and perhaps to use the California TDI list in this West Coast forum to send private messages to people. I am sure, quite a few would be interested on this deal if the message could reach them.

Thanks,
Huracan

Well, no TB work needed but I would attend a GTG just to watch if it happens. I also need to check/replace my glow plugs to get that nasty MIL turned off.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that this 'event' will be held at my place next Saturday October 7.

So, I'm going to offer an informal GTG at my place for those who are either having their belts done or other work done by Drivbiwire. Others are encourged to attend and kinda hang out since I'll have drinks and a BBQ going the whole day long. I think it will be kinda cool to watch a pro at work and let's see if Drivbiwire can actually do 8 consecutive belt jobs ! From what I've read, I think he can...

What I'll need before next weekend is a count of how many people think they might actually show up and stop by during the day other that those already having work done. A small fee ($5) will be encouraged so I can cover food and drinks...

My e-mail is also back up and running so you can PM me or use cme4lyt@sbcglobal.com

Thanx...jonathan

I have a friend who needs to get his belt changed on his 2000 NB but won't be in town that weekend. So I'll probably be driving his car over for him to have Pete do the belt change. But I have to work on Sat so my only option is to swing by after work for the 8pm slot or on Sunday. Pete usually has a Sunday session so I'm wondering if he's going to have one this time. If so, then I'll come by Sunday. This car is way over the belt change interval since it's a 5 speed which should be changed at 60k. The car has over 108k miles on it!

Well, I've now discovered after trying to make arrangements with my friend for dropoff of his car, that I won't be able to actually get his car until Sunday morning. So unless Pete is able to do a belt change on Sunday, I won't be able to make it Sat evening. Let me know if Sunday is possible.

Thanks.

For you, no problem. However the bigger issue is that we only have 4
guys...

If we can get 7 lined up we can knock out your friends car sunday am and then I can head home after that.

Has anyone touched base with the others that were previously interested?

The way it looks we may have to delay this again until we get enough folks lined up. However the good news is that I should be available on Oct 21st and 22nd to come down.

If this works for the 21st 22nd it works better for me since I have to make a diversion over to Phoenix.

If your friend's TDI is really 48k miles overdue for a TB change, I can't believe he would let it slide even one more day.

Prediction: this TB will fail before the TB GTG.

I hope I'm wrong.

He's been warned many times over by several people including myself. He's even been shown pictures here about how his engine might look like if the belt lets go. It's his choice but apparently his schedule will not allow me to get his car until Sun. In the meantime, as a sales rep, he's driving around putting still more miles on the car. I've not looked at his car so I can't speak to how his belt, water pump, etc looks like but I can sure guess....

I'd like to drop by in the late morning early afternoon on the 21st to watch for a while and meet some of you guys. I've got a set of Rhino Ramps I rescued from the dumpster the other day. They are a little worn and one ramp is missing it's rubber stopper. I've yet to test them so they are a use at your own risk item however I suspect they will work fine if you are careful. I can either bring them on Saturday or drop them off a day or two ahead of time. I'm in Walnut Creek with considerable frequency.

I'll take the ramps from you whenever we can meet up. I'm not actually sure when this event/GTG is going to happen, but I'd like to be prepared for Drivbiwire...

Call me and we can work out a time and place...

So, it looks like the TB event at my place in WC this weekend will not be happening. It looks like we're planning Oct 21 and/or 22 ?

Pls confirm...

So far we only have 4 guys signed up. Lets shake a few more out of the weeds that signed up originally and we can make this happen on the 21st. I need at minimum 7 timing belts.

Doing anything other than belts eats up too much time because of the miraid of issues that always crop up...stripped bolts, jury rigged engines etc etc. A simple EGR cleaning almost always turns into a 2 hour affair because somebody stripped or broke something the previous time.

If anyone needs minor work done and with all the folks coming it would be a good opportunity for people to dive in and do some other minor work. Somebody asked about installing a serpentine belt tensioner which is easy enough for anyone standing around with a 13mm socket and 16mm wrench to tackle.

Cme4lyt: You might want to start a new post with the new dates, listing the 4 folks who have already commited. That way, other folks will see the new thread with the new date and might be inclined to sign up. Also, my friend with the Beetle will be there on the 21st, and his name is Curtis. So you can put him in at the 2pm slot and take my name off of the 8pm slot. If you could also pm me your address that would be great so Curtis can have his timing belt kit drop shipped to your place.

Thanks!

You also need to contact me for directions and parking plans since I live in an unincorporated area with no street parking and no parking in my drive except for the car being worked on.

It sounds like Jonathan's place may not work for extracurricular wrenching. If this turns out to be soley a TB event then shuttling people will work. If there's desire to do more, then I think we'd need another location.

My driveway is currently occupied by lumber and I don't know if I can get them out of the way before Oct 21/22. If it does magically turn into a deck before then, we can do this at my place in West Sac. Hey, an idea...what about a TB/wrenching/deck building day!!!!

My place is absolutely setup for extracurricular wrenching !

I'm puttting Drivbiwire in my garage with tools, compressor, overhead work lights etc etc. I also have a 30'x30' concrete pad next to the garage where other work could be carried out and also go into the night since it's flood lit.

I will start a new TB tread, as mentioned before, so we can try generate a little more interest.

We're so damm close...

OK, that sounds good. It just wasn't descibed that way in your previous post that I quoted. I was just looking out for those wanting to do more.

Anyone going to be there to assist with two intake cleanings and an auto tranny flush?
