Hey Guys,

I need your help. My 2012 Passat TDI's battery died on me (46k miles). I got the OEM replacement today from the dealer and I just finished installing it(exactly the same batt, matched to my VIN).

Anyways... fired right up TPMS light, Steering Light, Check Engine Light, ESP Error. Googled and found you need to hit 15mph. Did that cleared right away but the Check Engine Light stays on now.

Never had any issues before, never seen the light before. Recommendations?

I also tried unhooking the terminals again and same thing.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about a 2012 but on some of the older cars the light will go out on its own after so many starts. Or if you have a generic code reader you may be able to clear the code. Of course to do it properly you would hook a VCDS up scan the system to see if the code is something you should be worried about, if not clear it with that.

It's probably a code that was set because of a power interuption, and will clear and not come back. Of course you have no way of knowing without a VCDS .

Thanks for the reply's guys.

I went for a 15mile or so trip to see if I could clear it but no dice. However, when I pulled into the garage I decided to fire it up a few times and it cleared on about the 6th fire-up. All in total I'd say it takes 10-12 startups to clear.

Good times, you the man - TDIJarHead!

Cheers,

I realize this is an old(er) thread in the Passat line however ...
2015 Jetta the ESP (Traction Control) dash alert is reset by turning the wheels fully left/right several times (suggest you do this while parked).
The CEL goes off after 4 engine starts (assuming there's no other engine error)
The TMP goes off on its own - for me during the first drive after the battery swap.

On my 2013 Passat TDI SEL that I just fed a battery (dead while out . . .) all it took was the lock to lock on the steering, and then all codes cleared sitting in the driveway, unmoved, and have been good to go since then. Ended up doing this twice (first removal of the battery revealed that the clamp had not been put back in my a tech in the past, and, of course, not a stock part . . . so out to fit the clamp a second time) and both reset the same way, so def. not a fluke.
