Balance Shaft Work At Dealer

Kudos to the folks at Gunther VW - Coconut Creek - South Florida

They completed the balance shaft upgrade to my 2005 Passat wagon - still under powertrain warranty - as well as the other maintenance items including timing belt, water pump, mounts, tensioner, and pulley while the upgrade work was being completed.

After discussing the work the service advisor, I also had a chance to speak with the shopforeman and take a look at their shop. They have quite a few TDI's that come through for service work and they had performed the BS upgrade on other Passats.

Amazing just how quiet the engine sounds now. I am very pleased with their work.

Good for you!! It is a shame that for so many of us, the powertrain warranty expired before we knew about or detected problems with the balance shaft module!

Met 2005 Passat Wagon owner today

I met a 2005 TDI Passat Wagon owner today while I was working.
I passed Oilhammer's information and the TDI Club website along to her.

I felt she may want a few contacts since our VW dealers in this area are pretty clueless whe it comes to the TDI motors.

I sure wished I had a few of Oilhammer's business cards.
I nearly froze my hand as I tried to scribble the information on my note pad as it was 19 degrees here in Chicago, IL.

I let her know there were some issues with the BHW 2.0 TDI motor and that she may want the contacts.

I am so greatful this website exists and that we have some really knowledgeable TDI owners, otherwise I would have sold my (2) 2005 Passat Wagons long ago.

Yes X2 everything Deming said. Deming what is really cold is when I used to live in Central Wisconsin and the fool editor would send me to an outdoor hockey game AT NIGHT. One time it was literally -10 during a game. They didn't stop for much. That was back when I shot film and I ripped more film with the motor drive than I care to Admit!

I like New England in the fall. I had my share of cold living in N.Y. for 35 years. I got used to the warm weather living in Florida for the past 10 years.If anyone wants to thaw out this winter feel free to stop by and visit us.

How many billable man hour does it take to replace the Balance Shaft?

Could it be itemized?

I'd like to know as I prepare to have mine replaced by my dealer or other local guru.

I have a 2005 TDI that is still within the power train warranty period and mileage. What would I need to do to get the BS module changed at your dealership under warranty. I could travel there in February or early March. Thanks.

Got the car to Pete this morning! She's undergoing surgery now and should be done in a day or two. Absolutely beautiful dealership with very friendly staff. I'll keep you posted.

I believe it is 5 years or 60K miles, whichever comes first.
