Backup camera not working

Good Morning Everyone. As the subject states I was driving my 15 golf sportwagen with retrofit the other day, went to back into a spot when I noticed that my backup camera was not working. I had someone go back and check and the latch pops up and exposes the camera as it should, wiggled the camera but still did not turn on. When I put the car into reverse the screens switches over like it should but it just displays a black screen. I checked the fuse and reverse light wires this morning and all seem to be fine. I do know that before this all happened I was getting a "left reverse light out" notification which also randomly stopped with both reverse lights working properly. Has anyone had this issue and found a fix for it or do I have to suck it up and take it to the dealership?

retrofit, im guessing emissions updates per VW, but just a guess.

As for the camera issues, I'd check the wiring loom at the top of the hatch, I wonder if repeated bending has caused some fraying wires?

If the screen is switching over to black, and the camera is popping out then everything that needs to "know" the car is reverse seems to be working.

Check the video wiring between the camera and the infotainment unit (including where it comes through the body to hatch boot, as mentioned).

I'm willing to bet, in both cases, that the headunit is at fault here. Is the radio and other functions working properly?
