About to pull the trigger on purchase of a 2013 Passat SEL premium. It has 52k miles. Previous owner of a 04 TDI Jetta so am familiar with them. Anything special I should be looking for before I sign on the bottom line? DSG service should have been done at 40k right? Purchasing from a VW dealership. Haven't driven it yet as it was just received and they are doing some sort of repair in the steering column. Thanks for any input.

If buying CPO from a VW dealership the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty plus the dieselgate warranty to 2024 and 162K miles means there isn’t much to worry about.

I bet the DSG service wasn't done. A lot of owners skipped routine maintenance before selling their cars back. If you can't find evidence of the service I'd do it to be on the safe side.

Heater core failures are pretty common on fixed (all, really) 12-14 Passats. Make sure you get heat from both driver and passenger side heater ducts when test driving.

2012-14 only go to 10 years and 3 months / 123,000 miles. 2015 are 11 years / 162,000 miles.

Ask the dealership to show you what they did to the vehicle. They may have records of the previous owner doing the dsg service.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that the 3.0L were the only models that were 10 years 3 months/123K miles, like my wife’s Touareg.

I checked maybe 50 Carfax reports of 2013-2014 Passat for sale in Chicago and only 10% had DSG fluid done.

I did hear back from the dealer. No record of a previous DSG fluid change. Does not mean it hasn't been done but could be a reason to ask for a few hundred dollars off the price.

Why not just ask them to do the service?

It also depends on the dealer reporting to carfax. My local dealer does not, so even though my cars have had all maintenances done, the carfax only shows the carfree services that were covered by vw.

That the dsg service was done should be part of the certification. Dealer would be silly to lose sale over it.

Purchased the 2013 a couple of days ago. Was able to knock the price down enough to at least pay for the parts to do the DSG service and fuel filter. Happy with it so far. Learning curve on setting up the radio/nav. Anyone know the best way to update the maps without paying for it? I've looked at a number of older threads but don't know if they are still good sources.

Made my first road trip. Just a little over 43 mpg. I'm pretty happy with that. My 04 Jetta was pretty consistent around 48 mpg on the highway. The Passat is a heavier car and has had the dieselgate fix and is a DSG.

Might need to look at the map updates. Does that include the firmware to take away the lag? Just got a 2012 SEL Premium with warranty on it.
