sorry, more info for those wanting details:

- this is the canadian highline model, stock 17" Joda wheels
- splashguards installed by dealer
- FormulaOne Pinnacle 30% all-around chosen, as I wanted something a little more subtle with same UV protection and fairly equivalent heat repellant. From this picture it looks like 15%
- stongard installed by same detail shop on hood, fenders and mirrors.

Rear window tint glare?

I recently got my Jetta tinted, installer used Suntek 30% all around and I'm having a problem with the rear window tint causing night time glare issues and I'm wondering if anyone else with tinted windows is seeing similar issues. With headlights behind me, the light seems to reflect off the defroster wires in a vertical line above and below the light source. With enough headlight behind me this can get quite distracting. Anyone else have this problem?

I have it too with my 30% tint. The defroster wires are diffracting the head lights and reflecting. I have accepted it and barely notice it now but it did bother me at first.

the diffracted light effect is better than having highbeams in your eyes. i accept it as is. the tint shop also took care of the factory water marks visible in the rear window before he tinted the car.

the pinnacle tint is a thicker tint than most, so it may be more prevalent on this and other tint materials from cpfilms (Llumar and FormulaOne) and other ceramic film manufacturers.

the film is still curing, manufacturer notes it takes upwards of a month for a full cure.

thanks. white is gorgeous when tinted indeed. looks like Thursday will be a good sunny day to take more photos. you still see the tan interior at 30% in clearer skies. I got the Pinnacle tint for $255 and stongard for $200.

I've got Suntek 35% all around except the windshield where I have 80%.

The shop that did mine is fantastic. They did a great job and gave me a discount for paying cash.

No viability problems at all.

I have 30% on my front windows and 15% on the back and really wish I had done 5% back and 15% front.

Anyone out here, Edmonton, looked into the same?

Barrie mentioned the hood, fenders and mirrors - but was the front bumper covered? I paid $650 to have VentureShield installed (in SoCal) and that included the partial hood, mirrors, front part of the fenders, headlights, foglights and bumper (including chin spoiler.)

I too am waiting on tint and love the looks of the Jetta with tint. Especially now that we're heading into summer! And I'm contemplating the mud guards too! Not much mud where I drive, but it'll be nice not to sandblast the rocker panels from all the freeway debris.

The quote I got in the DFW area was $650 for what you mentioned above. I haven't done it yet, but am thinking seriously about it.

$250 extra to do front bumper and headlights, didn't do it at this time.

i think 15% would have been really nice too after the fact, but 30% for me is a little more classy. my main concern was having the same % all around, and i didn't want the agony of having to deal with the cops at 15% front.

I noticed a small paint mark the other day, so if I'm doing I need to get on it so not full of them!

Maybe I can get a package deal also by doin the tint...

I too went for 30% all round for the more uniform look.

Where can one get the rear lip spoiler?
I'd like to have that & and splash guard installed.

Call Yorkdale VW and ask for Jol. Tell him you'd like both, and if he'd give you a discount. typically he will drop the price 15%, he knows Brandon and a tdiclub mention might get you more of a discount.

30% is very dynamic, at least with the Pinnacle 30 tint i got. in the shade or in cloudy weather it looks quite dark, however in the facing sun, you can visibly see the tan interior. i bought candy white knowing the car would be tinted

glad you guys like it. it is ceramic and doesn't interfere with any electronics. i read somewhere that 15% and less causes comfort access issues, at least on some BMW forum i read a while back.

NH doesn't allow front windows to be tinted, but I'm hoping to convince a local shop in the next month to install some really light 80% (Lumar?) tint on all windows. The titan black on a gray car bakes the inside, so I'm mainly look for UV blocking and heat reduction rather than styling and looks.

you might get away with pinnacle 50 for the fronts. just roll down your window if ever stopped for a traffic violation.

I have 80% on my windshield. You can't tell it's tinted, but it blocks a LOT Of heat.

Most infractions with the tint law happen at the inspection station, but i see quite a few windows darker than mine, many not OEM.

As for the wind screen, how'd they deal with the rear view mirror? also we have inspection stickers, and I imagine the razor used to peal the old sticker off wouldn't be kind to the tinting underneath.
