OK, my old GTO Mighty Mule dual gate opener died (again) so I replaced it with a LiftMaster LM412 opener. The problem I'm having is reprogramming Button #3 on the HomeLink in the visor to work with the LiftMaster. I get the flashing indicator on the HomeLink saying it is programmed but it doesn't work at the gate. Any help will be appreciated.

The HomeLink visor is from a Passat, and I installed it in my Jetta Wagon several years ago.

I just reprogrammed mine. You need an original opener to program the homelink. At least that's the procedure I used

If the opener has rolling codes, then after you get to the point where the flashing indicator says it is programmed, then you have to go press the "Learn" button on the opener and then you have 30 seconds to get back to your vehicle where you then hold down the button you want programmed (Button #3 in this case) for 2 seconds, release, then press again and hold for 2 seconds. You might have to repeat the 2-second hold for a third time. Then your HomeLink should be programmed with the algorithm for rolling codes.

Or are you talking about after you've done these steps?

Yep, that is exactly what I did -used the brand new, fresh out of the box LiftMaster gate opener 811LM remote. I'll try it again, though.

I remember having to do that with my LiftMaster 2220 garage door opener; I'll see if that works for the gate. As I understand it, when you press the "Learn" button, it prepares the LM unit to learn the code sent from the remote.

I've had to do it when programming anything wireless. The remote that goes with the door opener. The wireless keypad that I had installed later. The HomeLink systems in both our vehicles. It doesn't change the signal of the opener, so pressing the Learn button doesn't negatively affect any other remote you have already successfully synced to the opener. Good luck.
