Hi all,
I'm in the middle of an engine swap, an ALH to a supposed automatic AHF. I bought a used engine set said to be from Germany with low miles. Upon getting the engine home, and inspecting it more when I got it on a stand, I checked the injection pump, noticed the part number shows it as a manual 10mm one (#038 130 107 D, with the 404 Bosch part number) and pretty much threw my hands up, noted I got cheated, and considered it a manual block - whatever, I just want my car running at this point.
Since I've never done a timing belt job (and engine swap on this car), I was prepping & going over the engine a bit more today, and realized it had an automatic coolant flange (no extra glow plugs) - so now I'm wondering if it could be a case of mistaken identifying from the seller, could the IP have been swapped out at one point in it's life, or if it's really an AHF, did the automatics come with a 10mm pump?
From what I understand, the AHF has a slightly larger oil cooler, something about beefed up main bearings, and larger injectors. Other than those things, it's identical to an ALH. I just want to make sure what engine I'll have in my car for the next 10+ years or so.
Thanks,
