* I filled up at the public access B100 pump before the car was empty of the 50 gallons from my home supply. The calculated mileage from this data will make the MPG appear artificially low. The 6 or so gallons in the tank (I could add "only" 22.800 gallons) when I filled will roll into the next installment and will raise the present tankful to an artificially high number. The two will be combined for a valid two tank average.

So here it is, a fill up from practically empty.

I put exactly 95 litres in. I would have liked to try Jonathan's trick of tilting the car to put more fuel in, but if I would have stopped, I wouldn't have make it to the station.

No additive this time around (forgot the bottle at home).

So 4.49L/100km or 52.27 MPG.

Still with my trusty winter tires...

First fill of the month (and first fill since switching to 506.01 oil)

Date: Aug. 4, 2005
Fuel: 17.2G B100
Miles: 766.2
----------------
MPG: 44.55 at B100

Lots of AC, so this is looking a bit better than my average for the other summer months (42.9 for June and 42.4 for my one fill in July). I need a few more tanks to see if there is a meaningful mileage improvement with the lighter weight oil. It was raining when I filled, so maybe I just didn't top up like I usually do and this is just a bad data point

Drove from Greenwood, NS to inside Quebec border about 20km? I think. A fair amount of a/c use, lots of cruise control as the roads allowed, and majority of travelling above 115km/h, over an hour above 130km/h, and a few stints of 160km/h+
I can't complain.

Drove from there to Belleville, ON with 901.3 km on the tank with even faster drving than before, but almost no cruise usage...however, I think this is due to a far fewer number of hills compared to the drive through NS, and NB.
More to follow when I fill up again, as I just put $10 in when I got into Belleville to tide me overtil prices fall...? lol...not going to happen.

Comment: This is the best milage that I've ever achived in any TDI I've owned. I just wish that they did't cut the fuel during the winter...but thats just the ways it is...not much a person can do living in Maine.

"And you may ask yourself: Where is that large automobile?
And you may say to yourself: My God! What have I done!"

Time to pay the piper for having fun. I've been working in western MA this past week. The twisting, turn-filled back roads I take through the nearly deserted farm communities have tempted me, and I've succumbed, to blasting up and down the hills in third and fourth gear at speeds up to 70 mph. It's almost like a 45 minute autocross, but with a third dimension added.
Oh, And I discovered that an injector return line has been leaking for about a week.
All those miles "banked" from the early fillup? Squandered.

Might as well conform, eh? This'll be my only fuel use record.
Usual commute, 20 mi each way. Did better in past.
Filled up with Mobil this time because I had to. Will see how that does, although will try to drive gentler.

Changed EGR adaptation back to oem (vestigial, have Wingnut race pipe), changed very slight forgotten-about timing advance adaptation back to stock, retarded timing so that mark on vag-com chart is just below for an AFN and a little more below for an ALH/ASV (RocketChip 2, not sure what to shoot for).

This was a faster leg of the trip through Quebec to Madoc, ON. My next tank will be higher due to the max speed of 100km/h around here.

Ok, here ya go!!! I just got back from a week long trip from Wisconsin to Virginia.

Driver Name bluenb1
Miles travelled 710
Amount of fuel used 13.2 Gal
Model year of car 1998
Model of car New Beetle
Transmission type 5 Speed Manual
Type of Fuel used D2

53.78 MPG

Tire Pressure 35 PSI
Fuel additive: None
Average driving speed 75-82 MPH. At times between Cincinati and Lexington, just to keep up with traffic speeds often reached 90 mph. No A/C used on trip down. Car has 116K miles on her and runs like a top! This was the FIRST long trip the car has made since I bought it a couple of years ago. My legs actually got tired from sitting since I wanted to drive for one tanks worth of gas. I drove from Milwaukee WI to South of Charleston West Virginia before fuel lite came on. I was amazed.

Later, Jeff

OK...made a roadtrip to Ohio over the weekend. Cruised at 85-90 95% of the way, AC on 2 or 3 100% of the time. First tank had some city, second was 100% highway.

Tank 1: 559.8mi on 13.79gal of D2, average of 40.59mpg.
Tank 2: 591.1mi on 13.60gal of D2, average of 43.46mpg.

Not bad for a PD, eh? Man, I love this car...no matter how I drive it, I get 40-43 consistently. Given the weather too, that makes it doubly sweet.

Yuck...this is so ugly, I don't even want to post it...

Driver Name: Mike_M
Car: 2002 Jetta GLS 5-speed
Fuel: B99

This tank...
Fill date: 8/8/2005
Driving: City, 80% stop-and-go, 20% freeway
A/C: 10% of the time
Gals: 15.216
Miles: 680
MPG: 44.690

YUCK!

Also mark as "unreliable"...includes the other end of that 1.3-gallon adjustment for the unintended venting. One of these days, I'll get off my @$$ and give it a ventectomy. Then I won't have to worry about it.

(A lot of the bio users on aztdiclub.com are complaining about the last tank or so, so I think some not-quite-optimal fuel slipped through. Not enough to damage anything or cause problems, but enough to drop fuel economy.)
