Growler,

Are you saying that with the AC busted and windows down the luminowskie is better than the wife? I would belive that. I too had luminowskie too. That is one sweet ride.

Driver: Overbite
Model year: Unknown
Make: Grage sale special (MDT? - I looked but now I forgot)
Model: 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton
Tranny: CVT (Depending on how hard I fast I want to walk)
Fuel Type: BP 87 oct
Miles: .568
Gallons: 0.125
% city:100% (it is stop and go)

Lawn was longer and the tranny was a little slow (I mowed after a run) so I had to use more than one tank. The extra was estimated. I need a new mower, cuz otherwise it is going to be a 3 tank job when I move.

Oh can I enter a chain saw? I have to cut wood this weekend.

You should advance your timing. It will be tougher to start but you should get better MPG.

He's driving a Civic VX.

Lean-burn VTEC gasser.

If my engine ever gives up, I might look for a D15Z1 to replace the D15B2. More torque, and MUCH more economy.

I'll get my two tanks that I haven't put in here yet in here soon...

This tank was babying the car as much as possible. 36.2 MPG.

Here's the weird part. I was absolutely BEATING on the car. Italian tuneups, acceleration tests, random WOT runs for no good reason, etc., etc. 37.3 MPG this tank. Yeah, I know. ***?

BTW, the Civic VX came out in 1992. ;)

VTEC came out in 1990, in the Honda/Acura NSX. It QUICKLY trickled down...

Basically, the idea behind VTEC is to make a torquey Honda.

Now, what's a little odd is that a VTEC D-series is kinda rare, IIRC. It's more of a B-series (higher performance, stronger internals) thing, IIRC.

Oh, and krousdb, go ahead and submit any other fillups from this month.

However, for next month, I think I'll send you in the direction of the main TDI competition - hypermilers kinda throw off the curve, and they do allow hybrids (which don't get as good MPGs as your VX) in the TDI competition... ;)

OK, I will post on the main competition next month. Competition is good.:D

The first fillup posted was on 8/16. The other one for this month was on 8/5:

Driver: krousdb
Model Year: 1992
Make: Honda
Model: Civic Hatchback VX
Tranny: 5 Speed
Fuel type: 87
Miles: 353.4
Gallons: 4.690

To add what was posted earlier about the VX... It was a bare bones hatchback produced from 92-95 that weighed only 2094 lbs The EPA estimates were 48/55 for the 49 state 5 speed. The CA version did not have lean burn due to the increased NOx and subsequently had lower EPA numbers. The VX also has an EGR system which the other hatchbacks did not have. Other differences were drivers side mirror only, factory grille block, rear underbody diffuser, front underbody tray, oil warmer at the oil filter, 13" alloy wheels (9lbs each) and a 10.6 gallon fuel tank (11.9 gal on std on DX).

The final drive is 3.25:1 which is identical to the CX version which was rated at 44/48. While the VX had the VTEC-E leanburn engine, the CX has the 70hp 8 valve engine. The difference in EPA estimates can be attrbuted soley to the lean burn technology.

Sorry for rambling, I just love this car.

We can't.

The EPA and CARB folks have decided that global warming is more of a concern than peak oil, foreign dependency on oil, and gas prices.

However, that is definitely an arguement that does not belong on this thread.

So, do you calculate the final using an average mpg?

no, I am saying that my Lumina gets better mileage than the Eurovan that the wife drives..

she filled it up again yesterday an dgot abvout 16mpg on the lsast (3rd) tank for the month..

the animuL on the other hand only has about 200 miles on it over the past two weeks and I can go much further on this tank than that.. altho I will be filling it up again this weekend since its payday on friday.
