Yea, I test drove it. You don't expect me to think about buying any other car now? 0-60 5 seconds, Quatro. Got to have that creeping on these LA freeways. A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

Let us know what you decide. I'm considering an A6 TDI versus a 535d Xdrive later this year.

My A6 TDI

I ordered a base A6 TDI. Should have it by December, unless I get a deal on one sooner somehow. I'm not liking the tiptronic, the s tronic seems to be upgraded, but TDI is only tiptronic. I'm going for the 18" wheels, completely base. No packages at all. I even got the cheapest paint.

Update: 2017 uses a new platform similar I think to the MQB called MLB, and new styling and nav tech. I think maybe I'll wait for it. MLB may fix something called understeer in Audis, which makes it's sports handling inferior to rear wheel drive cars, due to being nose heavy due to engine placement in front of front axle. MLB may move back the engine placement fixing the problem. MLB is also lighter with aluminum, and 2017 will have other fuel saving/anti-hesitation tech too like maybe an electric supercharger.

I can understand the desire to wait for the 2017 model. There will A4 and A6 TDIs available. I also like the idea of having the latest tech. Takes a lot of patience, though.

59k base price.....whoa.
Best price I've seen so far on a new a6 tdi was 51000 on a 2015 with audi discounts. used with low mileage for 45000. I am far from signing on a deal for this car. I'm glad I have another year to shop. But yea the 2016 base msrp with tax is 60000. That's 2 and a half Golfs.

understeer. I'm thinking of paying the big bucks for an Audi assuming I'm getting an A+ handling car. This means it's B+. Even if I may never need to make a move where I'd find out I have understeer. Only the S6 has a sports differential to counter it.

"MLB will start with A4". Maybe that's how I go.

And it's with a manual trans? Are we talking TDI?

10k less with manual trans and no understeer? My 2006 is just broken in.

Yea especially since the dealers will tell you what you want to hear "o just trade it in."

I'm going to go sit in an A4. I may just wait for a year. Figure the new TDI A4 is out 3-12 months from now, the new TDI A6 maybe 3 months - 2 years from now. Understeer is a turnoff, pun unavoidable as in a telephone pole.

The IIHS small offset crash test for non-MLQ/MQB cars have really got me shaken. I read the BMW 3 series test last night, not pretty. Right now my choices are back to A3 or Golf. I'm either doing one of those, or waiting for the A4 TDI.
