I'm not familiar with that particular car, but it looks like a resonator of some sort.

Can anybody tell me the name of item 30 in the picture below please. It’s a black plastic tank which is located under the offside headlight and is part of the inter cooler boost system. Mine has split and is leaking under boost. Plus any information on best place to buy one apart from Audi. Thanks
You might want to ask this in one of the Audi sub forums. The “A4” in the name of this sub forum is from a time when A4 and MK4 used to be used interchangeably to describe 4th generation VW TDI’s. That practice has lessened over the years to the point that I almost never see it anymore.

I actually think Ax, Bx etc. is better than using mark x (aside from the face that Audi also uses A4 as a model name, complicating things).

First, Ax refers to the platform/chassis more directly. For example, both the MkI and MkII Scirocco were A1 cars, and of course the MkI and MkII Jettas were A1 and A2 cars, respectively. MkII sciroccos and MkII Jettas therefore do not share any parts, though they are both ”MkIIs.”

Oh and it also just chaps my ass when people think it's “emkay.” Mk is an abbreviation of “mark.” Not even Lincoln seems to know this anymore, giving us the ridiculous MkC (mark 100) and ludicrous MkZ when Z isn’t even a Roman numeral.
