58.976 MPG

100 miles with snow tires on (avg mid/upper 40's), ~1 week of heavy rain/winds, couple WOT events, ~250 miles of engine off coasting, last tank of winter fuel. Pretty decent given the conditions - first real attempt at good mileage since the turbo and tune upgrades. More work to do to get back to where I was, but it's early in the MPG season :).

60% overall effort in driving for economy.

81,723 ODO miles

SG Readings
MPG: 50.7
GAL: 12.7
Miles: 643
AVG MPH: 32
Hours: 20
Fuel Trim +75% for this tank (now +93.1%) - still re calibrating
Miles Adjustment +3% (no change)

All speeds indicated (~3% higher than actual), no Odometer Correction (~1% lower than actual)

That's fantastic!
Keep up the great work :D

Don't forget winter fuel as well. We'll see if I can keep myself disiplined enough for this tank to improve upon it. I'm kind of excited to see what kind of mileage I can get while still having a moderate performance improvment (my scan guage correction is +93% if that's any indication :)).

My second and final April tank.

Driver: MikeMars
Miles: 912.1
Gallons: 15.462 (58.53 litres = 12.875 imp gallons - I think more could have gone in, it settled down further after I'd finished, but the pump had cut off by that time)
Model Year: 2000 (early)
Model: Passat 1.9TDi 115hp PD
Tranny: Manual 5-gear
Fuel Type: ULSD

Trip computer claims 67.9 imperial mpg (a PB, previous was 66.0). From previous experience tanks this implies an actual MPG of around 67.2 (= 56mpg us). Note that because there was still a little room in the tank, the computer figure is probably more accurate than the tank-to-tank figure ... the next tankfull will average out the error. This situation is the opposite of my first recorded tank (March), which was going from not-brimmed to brimmed.

The weather was continuing to improve, so a further improvement in MPG as a result. In addition to that I started practising pulse-and-glide after the first couple of hundred miles.

The diesel cost £1.179 per litre, £ 69.01 for the tank, = about $ 138.02

Reserve light came on at 845.5 miles

Decided to give the Beetle a "spring stretch", and took her to Chattanooga this last weekend.
55.47 MPG -- Not bad thru the Smokies! (but I would have gotten 60+ MPG with the Bora)

497.25 miles in 6 hours 3 minutes and 45 seconds = avg of 82.054 mph and 45.452 mpg. Not 60 mpg yet but I won't complain considering my need to get home quick, running the AC and the mountains. Trip from SC to IN going through Smokey's on I40 with a/c on at 50% for 4 of 6 hours; 48 psi in front; 44 psi in rear; Goodyear Comfort Tread @ 19lbs each;

If time allows I will try this week’s SC to IN trip with some sense and see where I land. My best run ever is 55.034 mpg with ULSD+RL from Arkansas to Indiana.

ITSPREZ - That's pretty darn good mileage given the conditions and true average speed. Must not have many/any stops along the way.

Get that 0.658 5th (instead of the 0.681 for the highway cruising) and RC tune and I bet it will get a couple MPG's better.

Last Tank for the Bora this month. Short Experimental

Had to try N.O.O.C's "raise the rearend" idea. I did it with spring spreaders, rather than taller tires. Went up about an inch and a half (1 1/2 inches). Sure is a different feel to the car, and it looks like about 1.5 - 2 mpg improvement. Will have better numbers after my next trip to Michigan. (only about 250 miles since lift)

There was an un-expected consequence to this experiment. I had traveled 55 mph for the 250 miles. After the fill I had about 50 miles to go to get home and I drove most of the way at 65 mph. In that short run I got 61 MPG. I have never gotten over 60mpg before at that speed. Was it the "high tail"? Time will tell (and the trip to Mich.)

63.325 MPG

Gray bottle PS again no more winter formulation. I got a splash of ULSD in Pittsburgh last weekend - $25 @ $4.449/gallon. RUG at the same station that day was $3.499/gallon. Topped it off today $51.25 @ $4.359/gallon and RUG was $3.659/gallon. So, for the same money I could have had 21.151 gallons of RUG and a car that got 39.2 MPG on RUG would cost the same for fuel. Since this was NOT all highway it would be hard for a gasser to do that.

Here are my 3 fill-ups for the month....I still have 1/2 tank and won't be filling up again until May. It's so sweet to be able to say that!

My red one again. SG said I had 10.3 miles to empty, but it looks like I could have made another 25, give or take. Don't think I'll try to get that close. Planning a road trip for next month. Should be about 2500 miles or so total. I think I'll try a tank with cruise set at 55 (and hope I don't get run over!)

Got me a new toy - 2005 Winnebago Rialta Motorhome on the VW T-4 chassis - so I expect I won't be having as many fill-ups on the TDI at times.

Interesting - keep us updated on how the trend continues.
