Hopefully that's the last of the winter blend - also taking into consideration the water pump was replaced just prior to this tank. Not sure if this has affected my timing or not.

My car only has 8000 miles on it and it is already doing better than my B4. I love this thing!

I just bought this car from the original owner with 93,000 miles and this was my first tank. I love the fuel mileage, the TDI has exceeded my expectations! This tank was with no AC and 70% highway driving at 65mph. WOW!

I try to maintain around 80 mph on the highway. Frankly if you're getting better than 45 mpg, you are driving WAY TOO SLOW and are a traffic hazard.
Which highway would that be?

Drive at those speeds around here and you'll loose your license. period.

I've done better than 50mpg with speeds greater than 80mph. That depends on your car and driving habits. I can set the cruise at 85mph, not touch anything and get about 50mpg. In a pump düsse.

I've seen many people who are traffic hazards, they were driving much to fast for the road. Often these people are weaving and trying to pass on the right. I wish I was a cop sometimes.

I was recently rear ended, but I was stopped in traffic, had been for about 10 seconds. Never had any problem from driving slowly on a highway so long as I drive in the right. Yes I get angry idiots coming up from behind me who are driving 20mph over the speed limit, that is illegal. I drive legally. See above.

John - It would be really useful if you would post a "last updated on" for the chart.
Thanks for your efforts.

Here are my fill-ups. Sorry for dumping these all at once.

4/2 478 miles 8.215 gals 58.186 mpg
this is not a complete fill the pump jockey would not let me top it off

4/5 507 miles 9.492 gals 53.413 mpg
4/11 719 miles 12.9 gals 55.736 mpg
12.9 gals of b100

4/15 680 miles 10 gals 68 mpg
this is another partial fill tank I almost completely filled the tank but did not want to use the 3rd 5 gal jug for jst a little bit of fuel I needed to top off the tank.

Monthly total
2384 miles 40.607 gals 58.709 mpg

daBooj is setting the bar pretty high. Here are my result so far for April:

Driver: Ernie Rogers

4-12-06
Miles: 300.8
Gallons: 6.467 --> 46.5 mpg (local driving in Fresno, CA)

4-14-06
Miles: 884.4
Gallons: 14.104 --> 62.7 mpg (trip from Fresno to Utah)
Model Year: 2003
Model: Beetle + wing
Tranny: 5M
Fuel type: B5

From here on, I am going to always report fuel as B5 even if the percentage is not exactly that-- I will try to keep it close. And, I may not separate driving info for city versus highway. Further, I made a resolution today that I will (because I CAN) drive more efficiently around town, and you should see much less variation in my reports in the future.

yes, Ernie, I set it high and in order to make sure I kept it up there I made sure to have my car rear ended with enough damage to keep it in the shop for 3 weeks.

but the good news, I'm about ready to buy a tdi for my wife!!!

Yes, brilliant strategy, Booj. God forbid you ever reach 100mpg. You'll probably total it to preserve the numbers. :D

Wow DABooj, reread the rules, not just one tank wonder fillups. That's extreme measures you got to. How many more miles you get after being rearended and coasing it out after the impact? ;)

Sorry to hear about your car.... Sounds like it was a fantastic mpg machine, with a great driver to boot.

Majority highway miles at indicated speed limit - lots of rain/wind (tornadoes!) on this trip. 65.5 indicated ~= 63.4 actual over a 40 mile measurement.

Majority of improvement is likely due to the speeds I'm driving, but these are some of my better mileage achievements in less than ideal conditions (wind/rain). Some of this I would like to believe is due to the 0.681 5th gear, Michelin Energy MXV4's, 506.01 0w30, Redline MTL, Switch on injection pump, etc modifications I have made. I don't believe that they would hurt things though.

Yes, I know, and if jnecr would like to take the tank out, I'll understand.

I have been in the competition for months, however, and had all intentions of posting 3 other fill-ups for the month. But... oh well. As for where it was, I think the last tank before the smashup was going to average out to about 63-64mpg. Not quite as good as the last one, but... I still have 600 miles indicated at half a tank. That means over 60mpg. I was going for number 1 for the month cause I haven't hit the overall #1 spot yet.

And I want that!

DaBooj, I was teasing... It's pretty clear from your previous track record and postings that you've figured out a way to stretch a pennies worth of fuel 10 ways to a dime. Watercop will have to hunt you down if he wants the monthly championship for April. And Ernie, if he can ever find some summer fuel this month.

Loads more city driving, close to 50/50 on this tank. Add in some colder than normal weather and I'm down to a pathetic 41.863 mpg. Filled up with D2 from a heavily-used truck stop - should be summer fuel by now, put all my tires at the proper 42 psi and my first oil change in a few hundred miles should net me closer to 48 mpg for this fresh tank and perhaps the 700 mile club.
