If I had seen the details on the extended warrantee last fall, I might have chosen to keep the JSW. It was a manual transmission though.

Here's the PDF of the "Systems modification" that will be done for the "fix". I have not sent in my "packet" for the "modification" as of yet. This came today in an email from VWNA regarding those that chose to have the "fix". NOT having it done according to this has "consequences" if "repairs" were needed at a later date. They also speak of "stickers" that will be place on the engine once the "fix" is done. Also the "sound" of the engine will change in "mid range rpm". Are they doing away with the "multi pulse" injection programming that makes the TDI engine "quiet" and not a clattering mess like a FORD? Their warranty policies for the "fixed" vehicles looks pretty attractive.
ttps://www.vwcourtsettlement.com/en/docs/emissions/VW_BOOKLET_2L-Gen-1-AUT-v4.pdf

I have several questions:
1. How much "Mea culpa money" will I expect to get when the "fix" is done under the "program" when I have let's say 50K miles?
2. If I do "nothing" and without a "sticker" can my vehicle "pass" inspection and allowed to be registered?
3. Will the "Mea culpa money" offset the probable DECREASE in MPG?

I have my "packet" ready to go with the exception of getting pages notarized. Should I sit and wait to see what happens? Or "strike the iron"?

Same here. I purchased a 15 GSW 6MT and am pleased with it, though it would likely have been more cost effective in the end to keep the old 09 JSW, even with 220K on it since the warranty would then cover most big ticket items 4 more years

At least $5100, probably more. Any of the TDI buyback calculators will also determine the restitution amount for you.

Yes.

Will $5k pay for 2 mpg?

"Will $5K pay for 2 MPG?" I have been waiting for someone to say that. Other than impact on resale value, I don't really see myself having been "harmed" significantly by the whole affair. Granted, NO2 is not a good thing, but in the grand scheme of things, we are exposed on a daily basis to all sorts of unhealthy garbage that no one is doing much complaining about.....

Let's assume the fix will decrease fuel specific range by 2 MPG regardless of conditions, what's your pre-fix MPG?

Old MPG -> new MPG (old Gal/100mi -> new Gal/100mi): Fuel consumption increase in Gallons per 100 miles

50 -> 48 ( 2.00 -> 2.08 ): 0.08
49 -> 47 ( 2.04 -> 2.13 ): 0.09
48 -> 46 ( 2.08 -> 2.17 ): 0.09
47 -> 45 ( 2.13 -> 2.22 ): 0.09
46 -> 44 ( 2.17 -> 2.27 ): 0.10
45 -> 43 ( 2.22 -> 2.33 ): 0.10
44 -> 42 ( 2.27 -> 2.38 ): 0.11
43 -> 41 ( 2.33 -> 2.44 ): 0.11
42 -> 40 ( 2.38 -> 2.50 ): 0.12
41 -> 39 ( 2.44 -> 2.56 ): 0.13
40 -> 38 ( 2.50 -> 2.63 ): 0.13
39 -> 37 ( 2.56 -> 2.70 ): 0.14
38 -> 36 ( 2.63 -> 2.78 ): 0.15
37 -> 35 ( 2.70 -> 2.86 ): 0.15
36 -> 34 ( 2.78 -> 2.94 ): 0.16
35 -> 33 ( 2.86 -> 3.03 ): 0.17
34 -> 32 ( 2.94 -> 3.13 ): 0.18
33 -> 31 ( 3.03 -> 3.23 ): 0.20
32 -> 30 ( 3.13 -> 3.33 ): 0.21
31 -> 29 ( 3.23 -> 3.45 ): 0.22
30 -> 28 ( 3.33 -> 3.57 ): 0.24
29 -> 27 ( 3.45 -> 3.70 ): 0.26
28 -> 26 ( 3.57 -> 3.85 ): 0.27
27 -> 25 ( 3.70 -> 4.00 ): 0.30
26 -> 24 ( 3.85 -> 4.17 ): 0.32
25 -> 23 ( 4.00 -> 4.35 ): 0.35

Under his avatar, he claims an average of 42 mpg.
So, using the national avg price for retail diesel of $2.53/gal, that comes to an increase of $0.3036 per 100 miles driven.

($5,100/.3036)*100 = 1,679,841.8 miles that the restitution will cover for the 2mpg lost.

Unless my math is wrong, that should be enough to "offset the probable DECREASE in MPG" if that's all you're worried about.

Not really "worried" about anything really. Other than this "approved fix" turning a finely tuned, smooth running engine/transmission into a "Charlie Foxtrot"? :( BTW, currently I'm buying diesel via our Native American friends at $1.95/gallon "cash price".

+1

I thought about keeping everything intact until the new warranty expires, but it's not happening. I think the re-tuning they are going to do on the engine and dsg will be hard on it. As soon as I get home from the dealership I start turning my car into a real and dependable diesel car....as it would already be if it weren't for the bureaucratic zealots in DC.

Let's make sure what it says

According to the Emmissions Recall 23U3 - Emission Modification package I received today:
The emissions system warranty shall cover the following parts of the system:
* The entire exhaust gas after treatment system including DOC, DPF, the exhaust flap, and all sensors and actuators
* The entire fuel system, including fuel pumps, high pressure fuel rail, fuel injectors, vibration dampers, pressure control valve and all sensors and actuators
* EGR system ....., HFM ....., Turbocharger ....., glow plug ....., OBD .....
Now, just to be doubly sure, does this mean they cover the HPFP and all repairs in case it fails?

pretty much says it all.".The ENTIRE fuel system, including fuel pumps"...hpfp IS a fuel pump and part of the entire fuel system:D except if your fuel is "contaminated" good luck with that when they test it with their "new tool" which may be their way out..time will tell

I already have a buyback offer for $23.4K that I was planning to schedule for Dec. '18. I'm now really interested in the performance / mileage feedback from those who actually implement the fix. If I change to a fix I get $6.4K; the warranty would extend to Sep. '23. I only have 28.4K on the clock and car is like new; really hate to give it up.

I'm keeping my 2011 with just 45000 miles...like it too much!.the fix I doubt will change it too much...you should keep it if you love it.. you will not find another warranty like the one you would be getting...

I just got my paperwork from VAG today, I haven't read through it yet. I'm planning on waiting and watching these forums to hear about post-modification function - I'm mostly concerned about increased engine noise.
I'm also curious to see what happens to market value on Gen1 rebuilds - I'm assuming that VAG will modifiy the Gen1's they've stockpiled after buy-back, and put them on the used market. I have the thought that I could do well taking the buy-back offer of $13k for my 09 with 115k miles and hail damage, turn around and buy a modified 09 with an extended warranty with (hopefully) less miles than mine has... wishful thinking, I'm sure.
