Used to have... '11 Golf, 6-spd, 2-door
I just finished my paperwork yesterday. I was waiting on the fix announcement to make the final decision between buyback and fix. I'm opting for the fix and the $5000 in my pocket.
Glad you are able to keep it, neighbor! We just got back from a buyback... It was bittersweet, but with a new daughter 4 doors makes more sense (and we bought a used Legacy for my wife a while back to replace the Golf when I assumed no fix was coming)... Anyway, I am still excited the fix will allow you folks to motor on, and make TDIs more plentiful in general; though I am not in the market now, I will have the option of a nice 4 door TDI in the future... Although those GTIs looked pretty good today too!

I'm wondering, if I opt out of the fix, will I run into problems sourcing any replacement parts in the future?
I would think yes, according to the literature from the settlement (as GoFaster pointed out), but I have an extra low mile set you can have for cheap! I only have 1 DPF, egr cooler, sensors, etc... but I have 2 midpipes with the other catalysts, and a few other things... PM is fine if you are in need of some replacement parts.

scheduled for the fix

I just scheduled mine for the fix August 22nd, they told me it would take 2 days to fix it. It says 2-3 hours on the fix paperwork I received. Is my dealer (Berge Mazda Volkswagen Gilbert Arizona) trying to milk some car rental expenses from VW? Or maybe they don't know what they are doing? Makes me a bit worried they will try to pull something on me.

I have found this dealer to be quite shady when it comes to repairs, trying to get me to replace a air filter that was replaced by me 1 week prior to bringing it in. Trying to get me to do a timing belt that had already been done. Pretty much every experience with them has been bad.

Extra time might be because your either first or very early and they want to make sure they do it right. Or any of the other reasons you listed.

Is there another dealer around to take it to? I no longer use my closest dealer for things I MUST take it in for, because of their utter lack of competence and conniving business practices. If you have ability to drive to another dealer, I would. The dealer I'm taking my 2010 to has to do two other recalls besides the modification, and they told me it would be about 6 hours.

Plus a complimentary inspection and car wash.

I think your right I am going to call another dealer. I actually hate this dealer so much I did my oil change (at about the same cost) myself last time just to avoid them.

Well dang, I was hoping for a new DPF not just the LNT on my 2011.

Anyone still waiting for the portal to allow for scheduling of your fix?

Quote:
Schedule Your Appointment

The next step in the process is to schedule your appointment to complete the Approved Emissions Modification. An Emissions Modification for your vehicle is not yet approved by EPA/CARB. Volkswagen will contact you when there is an update on the status of the Emissions Modification for your vehicle.

Been showing it still till 8/14/17
Silly me, I didn't know that calling the dealer on the telephone was actually the method to schedule. We scheduled the 3.0 payment by the portal..

Scheduled for 8/29 Ontario, CA in at 9am out by the evening.

My dealer advised me that they would start scheduling appointments for the Gen 1 fix on Monday Aug 14, so I called that day and I am now scheduled the retrofit for Monday Aug 21 @ 8am, which is solar eclipse day. I am also getting a dental crown done that day also. I choose to believe it is a good omen day for me....

I have to drive a 2009 down for a fix on Monday the 21st as well. I was apprehensive on a 2009 (185k on the clock) but they said they'd have everything to get it taken care of.
We'll see what happens!

Straight from my internal docs:

Loaner Cars

If the repair time units is greater than 3 hours, Volkswagen is required to provide the customer a loaner car

Maybe mine is a early 10 model and that is why they said it would take 2 days. The manufacture date inside my drivers door says 12/09, That would be great if I get my DPF replaced too.

Yup, lots of work for the 09 and early 10 models where they have to replace the DPF because of it being one-piece with the original LNT ...

Damn, now I actually have to make a decision instead of procrastinating until next year. 2012, manual jsw, 130k, needs timing and wheel bearing, no issues. Buyback or fix?

I dropped my car off at 9AM drove away in the red jetta gasser loaner. Expectation was to pick car up the next day. Car ready at 5PM same day. Sticker under hood reads fix installed. Car feels the same. Starting on 3,000 mile road trip Sunday. I will let you know how it goes.

I second that. I wish a dealer would let someone video the install. Would be interesting to see.

An earlier post in another thread suggested that perhaps Gen1 fix was taking sooo long because VW needed time to test the fix - and make sure the exhaust pipe doesn't overheat and catch the car on fire...
I think I'm going to wait on my decision on my 09 until the very last possible moment, and watch to see how the fix does in real time. If the fix causes problems, like car fires, I think I'll go with the buy-back...

It took so long because EPA/CARB did a very thorough job of testing and evaluating not only emissions but aging performance of the new parts with the new software parameters. VW submitted the fix proposal for evaluation January 25 (2 days before the 27th deadline).

BB,

Would you have a list for the 2011 Audi A3?
The mailer said that it includes just the NOX catalyst and software.

Engine is a CBEA. But apparently Audi uses newer style parts than VW.

I did look from underneath and my "gen 1 CBEA" does indeed have a two part exhaust, so the NOX cat change should be a 5 minute job. Maybe 10 because they do need to remove and reinstall one sensor.
