Anyone know a way to track historical Blue Book values?

I own a 2015 Golf S TDI in the recall and want to find a way to track historical prices, to determine what it was worth before the recall was announced, and how much of a hit I have taken now. I know it will be tough to predict, but I'd love to see what it was worth say in July, 2015, and December, 2015, same car.

That's going to be really hard to pin down, since the cars were on sale for less than a year prior to dieselgate. Can't imagine that many hit the used market.

Also, if you have a friend at a dealer that subscribes to Black Book, they do offer historical data. You might see if your friend could help.

I used to work in an office where they subscribed to the black book data. There was a bookcase with back issues of the book going back several years. If you can get in with somebody who has access you could do a manual search. Insurance companies or auto dealerships would be your best bet.

I have a NADA account, but there is no info for the 2015 TDIs since the vast majority of them aren't in the marketplace.

They need to be bought, traded, sold at auction, and then sold again for data to be tracked.

Book values mean very little, especially for a car that had basically no resale market when the scandal hit (2015s). KBB currently values my car at $21,680, not a chance I could get within 4-5k of that. KBB trade is $20,600, again not a chance I could get anywhere near that. The one real comparison I have is a car that actually sold around the holidays in my area, 2015 GSW SEL TDI with 4,000 miles sold for less than 20k. KBB currently values that one at over $25,000.

Well I was offered $18,500 from VW when I was thinking of trading it in (pre scandal) and was offered $11,500 from the same VW dealership after the scandal. Now it sits in a garage on storage insurance.

I take it that's on your 2015? What model and trim level do you have?

Are you sure the value is down? I've had multiple people express interest in buying mine, specifically because you can't buy one from the dealer.
