6.2 L/100 is a bit disappointing for that kind of driving. I'm actually actively looking for a new car (my wife would get the B6 wagon and I would get something more efficient for commuting). I can do better than that with our B5.5 TDI, and in that kind of driving, I'd be averaging around 7.2 L/100 km in the 2.0T; at 100 I can average 7.0. My highway mix, like you, is about 90% hwy, 10% city/suburban.
Just so I am clear, you are saying 7.2 L/100 km is better fuel economy than 6.2 L/100km? On what planet?

Of course not. I am saying that the difference between 7.2 and 6.2 hardly seems worth the effort to take a depreciation hit on trade-in, etc. as I have been considering trading to a TDI. A trip to the dealer yesterday put the kaybosh on that idea since the cost of the trade would far exceed any fuel savings.

It won't be a problem at all in all highway driving. On the start of my fourth tank and the mileage just gets better and better as the break-in continues.

I just posted my best tank the other day, 5.5 L/100 km... I filled up at 900 kms and I still had 3/16 of a tank left!! MFD was telling me 160 km more to empty.

My highest as of now is 814.6 km with a 46.61 L refill (fuel tank light didn't come up yet), from summersville WV to georgia during a road trip. Cruise speed was 75 mph (GPS) whenever speed limit was 65 mph or higher.

I have put just over 3000 miles on mine so far. I have been averaging 37.6 mpg (US gallons) with over 3/4 of my driving being mountain/city/rural driving. Im happy with that considering everything else I own averages 21mpg or less.

Just filled up today, ran it to pretty much empty as I filled up 55.162 L and I did 950 kms. So 5.8L/100 km (or around 40.2 MPG). I'm still on the quest to consistently get a f/e around 5.5 L / 100 km

My 2010 Golf's longest tank was 635 miles, or 1016kms, using the simple * 1.6 method. Took 14.730 gallons for 43.109mpg.

Whoops, thought I was in the general Mk6 section, didn't realize this was for the Jetta guys! Carry on!

I have about about 7400km on my new 2012 Hightline Jetta TDI.
When i fill up, about 50-51L of fuel, pretty much always to the top.
I check how much fuel i get with the computer, and it keeps giving me numbers like 620km? I don't understand? Is this normal? I remember when i picked it up at the dealer, first day it was saying 840km. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The range calculation is heavily weight towards recent driving, so if you last drive before filling was in the city, and then maybe a bit of idling as you jockey for a pump, it'll be really low at first, but after you've driven 50 miles or so, it'll be more what you expect.

Mine was 1176kms 90% highway going 130km/h with 15-30min traffic (traffic speed 20-40km/h)
I still believe that our Jettas can beat the record of the Passat but as soon as I go to Quebec again will drive to achieve that goal ;D

No way a Golf or Jetta will ever beat the Passat - the Passat has 4 extra gallons in the tank, so you'd have to get like an extra 15-20mpg to match it, much less beat it.

agree lol...the record is 1626 miles/2616.79kms = 84.1 mpg not a chance the jetta can touch the passat

Yep,

806.9 which is just under 1300km

Fillup at 809.8 or just over 1300km, but I didn't take a picture, since I was just going for the 800 mile club.

Possibly could have gotten to about 875 or so since I seem to have about a 1.4 gallon reserve after the gauge shows empty. Maybe someday when the engine finishes breaking in and if everything goes right, I might be able to push into the 900 mile club, but I think that's going to be my limit short of dedicated hypermiling simply to obtain maximum economy.

Not bad for a MkVI that is still being broken in.

HOLY CRAP!

What speeds are you guys driving at to make that many kilometres on a tank? I haven't been able to crack 900km yet and usually average 750k with a mix of city and highway driving.

Actually, I can answer that question. At least for my case :D

About 46 mph, the route is mostly 55mph, with a few stretches of 45mph and a short section of 35, and some 25/35 at either end. Combined with delays for lights, that yields an average speed of 46mph for that tank. Ignoring the lights, the average speed was probably more like 48mph. If I could eliminate lights and traffic concerns I could probably top 900 with only a little more work. Now if I go by interstate and hammer it then I get around 680 miles per tank. The time difference is about 20%. The other alternative would be doing about 60mph down the interstate, and if they didn't run you over, would be cussing you up one side and down the other.

Remember: You shouldn't always hypermile for maximum mpg, you need to rev that puppy over 3,000 now and again to keep the turbo vanes clear and if you can catch it during a regen, hammer that throttle it a bit to help burn out the carbon buildup in the turbo, or it could cause you issues down the road. IOW, sometimes you need to DRIVE just to have fun.

I'm averageing just under 607 miles per tank, reaching for that 609 "max range" :)

Next goal will be an average of 42 mpg lifetime, the highway rating.

(Currently 41.1 US MPG - 49.4 UK mpg - 17.5 kpl)

Not bad for a lifetime average speed of about 28.6 miles per engine hour, I'd 50/50 city/highway, with a moving averge of about 37 mph.

pushing it that low 'might' be hard on the fuel system as written many times....why would you even consider it?

My last jetta went through a regen and when i put it to the floor had some pile of black smoke come out of it .. Drove for 3 days and 34 hours later it cleaned it right out

It might be a bit hard on the system but as long as it's not during the summer and I'm certain I'm not going to run dry, and it's a 'perfect storm' with only one more run to make, I might consider it someday. So far as I know I'm the only MkVI Jetta in the 800 mile club and it would be nice to get into the 900. Certainly has a certain appeal, but things would have to line up just right to even try. You will note on the 800 mile run I wasn't even down to empty on the gauge. Still one tick mark left.

So if I can get to 850-860 at empty then I might go for it, otherwise I probably wouldn't even attempt it. Given the route and past runs it is entirely within possibility to pick up another 50-60 miles over the course of a tank. Indeed, I should be able to hit 900 without even going past empty if I can get a near perfect storm. I have single runs of over 64mpg indicated which means an actual mpg of 62-63. So if I can hold that overall I can get 900 just with the normal 14.75 gallon vented tank fill and not even dipping into the 'reserve' or not much.

Will it happen? Who knows, but it could.

mine will give me 1000 km per tank doing 120-130km/h down the highway when I do my commute (rural with a bit of city) I fill up at 900km during summer and around 800km during winter

I'm barely averaging mid to high 30's since I've been back in MO, not sure what the deal is...

Leadfoot! :D Can't get 40 having fun ALL the time!
I rarely do! I give it an Italian tune-up once a day on the way home from work, side that I pretty well baby it, and coast in gear for as long as I can before applying the brakes. Not sure if I'm driving uphill both ways or what?
