This seems to be my fuel efficiency bench mark. Has anyone with a 2011 Jetta hit 1000km/tank yet?

Chime in with your distance travelled between a fill up to when the light comes on! These are things a potential buyer like myself with a long daily highway commute would like to know.

For American reference: 1000 km = 621.371 mi.

Theoretically yes, but I would have to take the tank to zero. The owners manual states to fill up at 1/4 tank, and with the know HPFP problems, I am playing by the rules rather then trying to hit 700 miles on a single tank.

On the highway, doing the 65mph speed limit I averaged just over 50 mpg, using the fuel gauge, which thus far has been pretty accurate to me. I got 365 miles when the gauge hit the half tank mark. No special driving, no down hill runs, but no major up hill climbs either.

My gas mileage gets better by the tank, and so far I have not used any additives or special fuels, just plain ol' ULSD from Shell.

Good luck.

i dont drive until i get CEL light, but in the begining i was getting around 7.0L/100kms now days i'm getting around 6 to 6.2. my cars got 14000kms. i'm sure once the temp warms up i'll be getting better mileage as well.

while back we ran out of fuel on the 2010 Golf TDI, tank is 55L's so i managed to put in 58L's. Too bad its not like the old ones that you could do the vent trick!

My best tank is 685 km (425 miles), filled up when the refuel light turned on.
Do you drive it like you stole it? My worst tank, and I filled up early because i was the first tank, was 496... and I had 1/4th a tank left.

Yes. Well, No. But I could have if I had thought about breaking the 1000km barrier.

Check my fuelly. On Sept 4th I made it 620 miles on 13.8 gallons. The light had just come on and I was just thinking about getting to my destination. I was driving from So Cal to Washington (with a stop at TDIFest in Oregon). This tank was 99.99% highway mileage.

But since I so rarely deal in km, I wasn't even thinking about the 1000km barrier.

I have similar statistics; 430ish, 470ish, and 460ish on my first 3 tanks. Using the break-in procedures (hard acceleration fairly regularly after the car is warmed up) and living in central PA (200-900 foot elevation changes EVERYWHERE I go) don't help the stats.

If I'm on the Turnpike I've had 47-48mpg or so. I'll wait for "real" fuel economy stats until after 5k miles (at about 1500 now).

Summer time, 97% highway trip -1026km (Avg 5.2L/100km). Light was on but still had small amount of reserve. Filled up with 53L (according to the pump).:D

Winter time (-5 to -20C), mixed - approx 750 - 850km per tank. Not as good, but it's damn cold.

In early August, 2010, I went 1012 km on a tank that involved 90% highway driving. At that time I had only 5500 km on the car (2010 Golf TDI). Just before refuelling the display indicated 130 km to empty and roughly 1/8 tank left. The fuel light did not come on. Refuelling took 49.0 litres. (On this tank, about 4.8 L/100 km.)

I did 591 miles on one tank. I could have gone further but chose not to.

740km has been my best so far but I do a lot of city driving. My buddy(2011 Jetta TDI) went from Toronto to Detroit and got 1100+ on that tank. It was all hwy at 110 kph. My father in-law (2010 Golf wagon) who does a lot of hwy travelling never gets under 1000km per tank.

Just recorded a 723 km tank followed by a 52.1 L fillup. That was dangerously close to running out of fuel (aout 2.9 L remaining).

Toronto = lots and lots of long distance city driving.

Wow! How did you achieve that?
Can you share your driving techniques to get such FE?
What proportion is City/Highway?
What speed?
Traffic conditions?

Thanks.

Well based on what I see here my car sucks fuel like my race car.

My kilometerage (not a real word) is downright poor!

2011 Jetta TDI DSG, snow tires (same as stock).
Mixed highway and city.
Normal hwy is 120kph -+
Normal starts and stops (non aggressive, too new).

After just 12 tanks my overall average is just 7.2l per 100km or 32mpg.
Now the last 3 tanks were down right horrible
7.7L/100KM (30mpg), 8.7L/100KM (27mpg) and 9.1L/100KM (25mpg).

Best tank was 6.52L/100KM (36MPG)

Now yes its cold up here (Brampton, Ontario Canada) at times but that shouldn’t affect the mileage that much. I use only one station that’s by my house (Perto Canada).

Any ideas?

Do you let it idle much? If so, don't. I would also try a different fuel station. I haven't had a tank under 40 mpg yet. How much pressure are you running in your tires? Run it to 90% of sidewall max.

Many thanks.
I will make the changes 90% tire press, different fuel station.
I just filled up so it will take a few weeks (3 tanks) to see any results.
As for idle I usually start the car and if its cold (anything below -0C) I let it idle for 2-4 min to warm up the parts then drive easy till it’s at operating temp.

This is exactly how I feel, my car only averages 7.2L/100km as well. I also live in Brampton but I only filled up 3 times so far and every tank is getting better and better. I figure I do too much city driving, it's freezing cold and the car is too new.

I have an excellent idea for you.
Use Imperial gallons not US gallons when you do your calculations.
There I just saved you almost 7 MPG!!!
