Last week, when I was installing a block heater, I figured I'd also open up my intake and clean it. To my surprise, there was a very thin crust of carbon and mostly just an "oily film". I've never cleaned it in 235 000 kms (146 000 miles). I dont use any fuel additives other than in the winter, fill up 95% of the time with Shell V-Power Diesel and smash the accelerator daily. Rarely ever use it for short trips too.

Makes me wonder how my DPF is looking. Anyone else also shocked at a clean emissions system?

There are just too many to list....
On the CR 4 cylinders sold here, the low pressure EGR does the bulk of the oxygen charge depletion duties, which is taken post-DPF. So no soot will ever enter the intake system when it is working correctly. Anything you saw in the intake was from the high pressure EGR, which is only in use during some specific times that would be lower loads anyway. That, coupled with the above mentioned ULSD, means the intakes on these don't gunk up. On the CJAA, they do fail from the runner control motor. There is an updated design that addresses that.
