I've gotten 2 DMs about emailing someone else who has a part to sell me. I'm not doing it obviously.

The way the messages were worded seemed like it was a bot that crawls message boards, creates an account, then sends the scam message.

Good rule of thumb for sending goods or $$ to someone from a message board is to look at their post history (very grateful to have "New Members" tagged as such here). If they're totally new, or only respond to WTB threads, definite no-go. And especially if it's "contact my buddy" crap.

Always trust the Tom Holland sense.

Also, you can search usernames for related posts. I had a WTB on Vwvortex and got a reply that looked promising. We messaged back and forth and something didn't seem right, so I searched the poster's username and found two threads mentioning that that user had scammed them.

I wasn't, but I did yesterday. I just went to report that and it says the message cannot be found.
