I just got an insurance bill for 2 cars . But no, no regrets about the buyback. I just hope it is soon after the judge signs off on it.

I'm thinking if someone had big window sized decals of a lemon on ebay ,that we can stick on the car when the first wave start to turn them in and the media have a field day with it,, they might start to see how let down their customer (source of revenue) base is ?????

I can't conceive of a situation where I won't sell it back. I'll likely do it in 2018, probably early to mid summer.

For me, I will get a few thousand less than I bought it for, 6-6.5 years from when I bought it. No way I can pass that up.

I'm just hoping for a major hail storm after I get it fully paid off.

Turning mine in at first opportunity. I have been STUCK with my car since this scandal hit. At the time this hit last year, I had moved to a ski resort and was in teh process of looking for a 4x4/AWD to trade for. Then the scandal hit and I was stuck unless i wanted to take a hug hit on value. I made it through the winter barely by swapping and borrowing awd vehicles.

I am hoping to have rid of this thing before December. Some people are happy with teh buy back, some are not. I am not happy because, as a person NEEDING a different vehicle, I had no option but to accept a huge drop in value. I'm not upset over what they are giving us but I am upset at being held hostage to this car over a year now. It's going back at first chance.

Can't wait to dump the thing and wash my hands of the situation. The fuel savings aren't worth the headache and potential for massively expensive repairs these things can run into. $7k if my HPFP blows up? Wouldn't have bought it knowing what I know now. I have zero faith in VW for honoring any kind of extended warranty after seeing tons of horror stories on them pinning expensive repairs on misfueling.

More valuable....think of the two year only B4 TDIs....they command BIG $$$ since not many were sold and are rare now, especially the wagens! If VW stops production of the TDI for sale in the U.S., our TDIs will always be in demand with enthusiasts. They'll unfortunately become 2nd and 3rd cars as time goes on, but sought after none the less.

I have been waffling back and forth between the buyback or fix for a while now. I was most recently leaning towards the fix again, but while at the dealership on Friday for an oil change and adblue the service tech mentioned a couple of things that made me give pause. He seemed confident that, if a fix was approved it would:

A.) definitely hurt performance/mpg (enough so that he either recommended taking the buy-back or not doing anything at all)
B.) not be installed/performed by the dealerships. When I asked further, he stated that his understanding was that a 3rd party would be performing the actual work.

Re-thinking the buy back also. Dmax gets 15 mpg.
JSW 42.3mpg for the last 3K avg. Mix of town ,country & highway.

I am not performing any sanctioned fix and will see what happen in 2018. - and probably nothing after that. Doesn't sound like VW is in a hurry to bring diesels back to the states.

It doesn't cost 7k when the HPFP blows up. In fact they have improved the HPFP.
The failure rate is around 1%.

The fix for your car software up date. Then the dealer will turn around and make nice profit on the resale.

I go back and forth between the buy back or fix and keep options. I like my 09' but even with the fix, worry about the HPFP issue that is always looming. If I were to keep it, I would probably install the 2Micron CP3 kit for peace of mind. Just not sure if I want to bother with all the what iffs.

I don't worry about HPFP failures, being struck by lightning, having an airliner crash into my home, or a meteor or space debris falling on me very seriously. Certainly all those things have happened to someone, somewhere but the risk is so low I never consider it.

My poor man's VW JSW TDI was purchased from the second owner with 59k miles on the odometer. She had it serviced regularly at a VW dealer but the first 40k miles remain a mystery. No CARFAX service history showed up to 40k when I bought it.

I've put another 55k on it with regular service and no special fuel treatments, prayer, or mystical religious practices used. The old TDI contines to start, run, and perform like it always has.

Likewise I've put over 700k miles on a succession of three Cummins powered Dodge Rams over the past fifteen years and never had to replace an injection pump or injector.

My "secret to success" is only buying clean diesel fuel (no accidental gasoline) from high volume retailers with good filter service.

I will drive my 09 for 2 more yrs and give it back for the same price I would get this Nov,a no brainer. 2 free yrs of driving and by then the smoke will clear and hopefully I can pick up a new TDI from some Co, BMW,MB or VW.

You get just over 12k miles a year before it effects the buyout adjustment.

I'm up in the air. I like the car. A lot. I want to see more specifics and less 'it probably will change it xxx mpg and yyy hp before I make a final decision. The car has less than 30K on it and there is no reason to get rid of it as long as the fix corrects the problems with a minimum of penalty.

No, still going with the buyback.

Turning down generous cash on a 140K car would not be very smart.

My family needs something roomier. At this point of my life I feel I need something more luxurious and roomier and quieter.

Taking nothing away from this Jetta TDI because these past 4 years have been great on those ramps and passing situations...what torque....has left many gassers way behind.

The German diesel ownership experience has been exciting to say the least. After 2 VW gassers (a 1991 Jetta GL 5 spd & an 01 Passat 1.8T gasser) I stepped into this TDI not knowing much about VWs diesels.

Have learned a lot on the forum here. Really unfortunate how 9-18-15 changed things. I really was hoping to keep this thing forever and gift the car to my eldest daughter's driver's ed and college needs.

But there's no time to be down on this car, thinking of all the good things..not the bad. Like the 2 times the ESC kicked in and helped me avoid a crash, or the many times I drove like an old lady and sure enough it got 50 mpgs.

Moving on to bigger things....probably. The Mercedes Bluetec offerings...E250, ML or GL 350s are just too enticing. The Q5 & 7s are too but the 3.0 fix still looms and may deter me from pursuing those. Never really thought about diesel SUVs than can get 25 mpgs...until dieselgate happened...

But will always wonder what the final results would have been with the fix.

My fix dollars would have been $6,701.53 ~~ not chicken feed. Even though it come in two parts (months apart) ~~ 2/3 then 1/3 latter.

$25,275.53 will be my buy back With that I can choose any 2016 or 2017 make. Even a Golf. And regardless of brand, will get new tech at every price point.

Really hate buying new cars, and getting my VW $$$$s in hand then getting a replacement ASAP is a mess

Probably not changing my mind on getting the buyback on the Golf. The money is just too good to turn away. I am, however, going to wait until after the judge signs the paperwork until I sign the car away. On the JSW, it's a wait and see game. If they have a fix and it doesn't change the car that much, we may keep it and give it to one of the girls. Of course, another 18 months and 18 k miles, could push it towards the buyback. That $14k amount won't change and may look even better then.
