Good luck. I found mine the day it went up for sale. The guy had three people interested in it. I will keep an eye out for you.

Same deal here. It was listed here. I got the car because I PayPal'd my deposit less than a minute before the next guy. I had to go to Michigan to get mine.

Will keep my eyes peeled too.

I'm in Covington near Lake Ramsay, but I have very limited knowledge of the PD engines vs. the ALH. Shoot me a PM with the symptoms and what's been tried and maybe we can do some research and I'll take a look. I do have a HEX-CAN-USB VAGCOM so we can read codes and such from it without issue.

Sorry to hear about your 06.
I'd try to help, but I only have ALH knowledge.
What is it doing? Or not doing?

I took the valve cover off, seems like the cam is worn a good bit. It still acts more like a bad injector than anything though. Either way the Cam is going to need to be replaced either way, AWSOME. Is there any good mechanics in the area that will work on these types of cars?

Hey Stuart,
I'm about 30 miles east of 'ya down I-12 and most of us are fairly swamped at the moment as the holiday season in upon us but at some point when one of us gets a break we could probably wander your way for a look-see...

My daily-driver '01 TDI just shredded the belt prematurely on my way home from thanksgiving dinner thanks to a bit of trusting procrastination on my part and my apparently foolish faith in the previous owner's word on when it was last replaced so I'm a little pre-occupied for the next few weeks trying to order tools and find time to tear apart an '01 TDI to see how bad it is and what all I've gotta do to get it running again, hopefully "just" a head rebuild and timing belt job and no bottom end damage if I'm lucky but we'll see...

I'm not familiar with your engine version but I've been wrenchin' on a variety of cars and bikes for nearly 20 years and we've got the forums for TDI help/reference too so surely we can figure out what's up with your '06.

My Kii-USB version Vag-Com cable won't really talk to the can-bus cars ('03+).
Do you have one that will so we can see what the engine computer thinks is going on?

The car currently has 162k miles, and I have no clue as to when the last timing belt change was done. :( Sorry to hear about the timing belt mishap on your 01, hopefully minimal repair will be required. Member Deebeaux who lives fairly close to me mentioned having the VCDS that will work with my car. I am very limited in mechanical knowledge and completely lost when it comes to diesels, so the help would be greatly appreciated and hopefully soon we can find out what the damage is on my car. I have a wopping 12 days off for the christmas/new years holidays so hopefully I will get some time under the hood then. Thanks for the replies, Happy holidays to all.

What's up guys, I'm down around the Houma area. Been searching for a fuel sipper for a while and found a little project in the form of an 02 Jetta TDI 5-speed. Picked it up fairly cheap because it wasn't running and the PO was quoted over 2500 bucks to change the IP. I put a pump head o-ring in it using the Diesel Geek kit/procedure and after cracking the lines, she fired right up. EGR valve isn't holding vaccuum and there seems to be quite a bit of blowby, but other than that, this thing runs like a top. I plan to run it until she won't let me anymore, then fix it and run it some more. Really liking this little green booger so far.

I'm a complete noob to these things, but I'm armed with a VCDS, Bentley Manuals, and a car that needs lots of TLC so it looks like I'll be getting an education.

I live in Slidell. Currently I have a 2003 Jetta TDI... but it is stuck in 3rd gear (safe mode) and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what is causing it (and how to fix it)... so if anyone in the area is feeling neighborly I could use some help.

Hey dude, I'm "out by the mall" in Slidell most of the time when I'm not working.

I presume it's an automatic?
What dash warning lights are on while it's running, if any?
Do you have a Vag-Com/RossTech Hex-CAN cable and laptop for VCDS?

Do you have your own Vag-Com cable for your car?
I only have the VCDS Kii-USB cable for the earlier pre-CAN cars since I drive an '01 so I'm not sure what all my cable will and won't read on your '03.
It can still check your pump injection timing an IQ and EGR and such and scan for stored fault codes, the basic stuff, but I don't know about what all it can and can't read with your '03+ CAN-Bus system. It won't break anything to plug it into your car but it just can't read CAN-Bus related stuff.

If you don't already own one I may have access to a Hex-CAN cable within the next week or two but I'll have to double-check.
deebeaux has an '03 and Hex-CAN cable he but moved 140 miles away earlier this year.
there's an '03 owner I've assisted in Diamondhead but we used my Kii-USB to troubleshoot his original engine problems and then used it again to set the pump timing and IQ and check the basic stuff when he got his engine rebuilt and he finally put it back in the car, and I don't think he bought himself a Hex-CAN cable yet but he might've finally bought one lately since his wife recently got a 2010 TDI wagon.
We can use my pre-CAN Kii-USB cable to start off with if you don't have your own, but if we end up needing to do CAN-Bus stuff I'll have to call around and ask...

What's your schedule like?
Mine's all over the map, on-call 24/7 so it's just a matter of finding time when we're both free to meet up.
I don't have instant notification from the forum to my cell so I have to remember to check in here but as soon as I get your reply we can try and meet up to see what diagnostic codes you're having and go from there.

That doesn't sound fun.
I'm guessing you have the auto.
In which case my suggestion is to swap it out for a 5 or 6 speed manual.
By far the worst part of the job is pulling the exhaust to pull 2 heat shield bolts to pull 2 shifter nuts. Rest is about like a clutch job.
I actually have Deebeaux's VCDS right now.
