My TDI needs new tires, which Im not buying obviously, and Im ready to pull the trigger on a new car. Have not received my offer yet. I cant imagine any issues but I wanted to wait until I at least had my offer. Has anyone gone forward without getting this wrapped up?

I've got a deposit down on a Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid and they're willing to wait until everything finishes with VW.

I have a GTI on order. Just got a call that it will be at the dealer next week! Hahaha. So much for perfect timing. I don't have my offer letter yet.

I just put a deposit down myself. Thinking of picking it up tomorrow. I can't see the risk but still hesitant.

Just delivered a half hour ago......2017 Escape Titanium 2.0.

FWIW if you don't like the "dealership" trauma when buying a car, you might try Roadster.com. It's like buying a car on Amazon. Awesome experience.

TDI going back December 3.

Yep, I jumped the gun. It's difficult to rationalize.

VW is going to be cutting us a check for nearly $30k and there's no way to insure the Passat against that, so it's parked.

Plus the incentives & timing were right for the car we bought, favorable enough that it would have been tough to duplicate the deal down the road once the buyback is completed.

Had the deal on the replacement not materialized, I wonder if we'd still be driving the Passat. An accident could prove exceptionally costly.

I am in the same boat as you.
There are plenty of people in the replacement car thread who are in a good enough situation to be able to afford multiple car / insurance payments, or who have rolled the dice and worked out an exceptional deal.
I was offered a deal by the sales rep to defer payments for "up to 5 months", but I'd still have to insure 2 cars and pay the interest for the deferred payment new car. Too risky for me. I do not like to gamble. They are still making new cars, so I will wait until I have my turn-in appointment. Also, my family has a second car, so I don't HAVE to buy a new car immediately.

Edited to add, there's just no way to know WHEN we will get our money for sure. I can't make a commitment based on an unknown time frame.

Month or so ago bought used MINI, one year newer, 25% of the miles, two years of warranty left. And $5k leftover dollars to blow on upgrades, etc. Win!

Bought a 2017 Ford Fusion Titanium at the end of July and parked the Passat in my other garage. So to answer your question, yes.

I took delivery a few days after the court granted final approval. If you have followed all of the steps to get your documents in for your claim and your car has a clean title(not salvaged/totaled prior to sept 2015) you should feel comfortable moving forward if you are worried about missing a good deal or wrecking your TDI.

For me it was a simple net calculation.
1) Loan rates are historically low. I will only "loose" about $35 a month in interest to the loan on the new car. And the first payment isn't even due until December.
2) since I have a garage to safely park my golf until buyback, insurance will be very low and because I am "selling" the golf I have 30 days before I have to pay for insurance to specifically cover it as if I was keeping it. And when I do it will be whatever the minimum is to keep it legal in Oregon since I wont be driving it.
3) The fact that I also have the Takata airbag recall that nothing is being done for, I didn't want to take the risks driving my family around.

Based on the potential risks, it was worth it for me and it worked within my budget to move on a new car now instead of waiting.

Take a really close look at your personal situation and plan that the process will take a few extra months from now. Can you afford to make a couple of additional loan payments and potentially insurance (if your state requires it) before you get your check?

just my .02

I'm fully eligible. Paperwork has been reviewed and accepted. Just waiting for my offer. I can easily afford two payments for the next couple of months.

And that's exactly what I wanted to hear!

I purchased a 2016 Golf SE w/ Lighting Package at the end of September. The deals being offered were just phenomenal on remaining stock. I was able to work out $21,649(tags included) + tax, which was just about 6k off MSRP, along with 0% Financing through VW Credit.

In the mean time I have parked my Sportswagen. I just had my first payment for the new loan on November 4th and Im going to have my JSW back to VW by sometime in January.\

Remember that those that have two car payments are in effect paying one of them to themselves with no interest. As long as nothing else changes, every penny of your TDI payment will be returned to you when you are cut your buyout payment as a reduction in loan payout.

I parked the Passat in July and bought my wife an ATS.

I drive it every now and then to make sure it's going to run ok to the dealer. I had to change the battery last month as it would no longer hold a charge and even on the charger all night would only start it once. It also needed tires and I'm not going to put new ones on it just to sell it back.

I've had to make a few payments on it, but that's ok, it'll come back when they buy it back.

My Jetta 2012 is waiting for the buyback, glued to a parking fence.
I have bought 2017 Subaru Outback, 3.6 all whistlers and blowers included
As of today, 2016-11-11 I am waiting for VW to call an appointment
then I will pay for my Subaru
no bio-diesel worries again
Gas station with diesel , in my pretty wide neighborhood are far between,
all of them have bio-diesel , 5-20% content - ILLINOIS rule :(((((((
just aim for ANY nearest gas station, buy a gas and go...
No HPFP, no DPF, no codes, no glow plugs.
While shopping for Subaru, I have asked for trade in.. they offered me something between 4 and 6k $$$$$$$

Buying a new 2016 Kia Optima SXL on Saturday, 11/12/16. Still no offer yet. Docs submitted on 9/19 and were complete on 10/19. Going to park the 2014 Passat SE TDI to save on the mileage.

Ordered an Audi A3 Quattro Prestige. Passat goes back on December 13, and the Audi should be here a week or 2 later. I will just drive my RAV4 or my wife's Mercedes for the week or 2.

Picked it up last Saturday. Mileage is less than half that of the TDI but VW continues to impress me. This car is amazing, even stock.
