Any TDI gurus in SW MI?

Hello,

I'm located between St.Joe/Benton Harbor and South Haven. I normally wrench on my own car, but have a good used South Bend clutch and a Wavetrac LSD out of a low mileage car that I would like to get installed in my 2000 manual Golf, and this is more than I want to attempt myself. Local foreign car service shop won't do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Went looking for *THE folk the Ford gents go to, and found a handful of RIP posts on Terry Haines. Last had contact with him 2012-ish whilst looking for a FDR change in a manual Focus.

Those bits are not exactly TDI specific. Find a good mechanic locally to do it. No small task. Look in local car user groups for references. Some references on the interweb as well, but they're often useless.

He's a little way from you but Kirk Blackmore, r90sKirk on here is a great TDI resource in Rockford just north of Grand Rapids. I'm in the Kalamazoo area, and towed my car up to him a few years ago for an issue I couldn't figure out, and he got me back up and running. Awesome guy that really knows his stuff. Good Luck

Thanks, krazy. I'll look him up. It's probably at least an hour and a half drive to Rockford, so hope to find someone closer. Have you used Foreign Car Services in Portage? Claudio is a good guy and has been around for several decades. We used to have him work on our Euro cars 30 years ago when he had a much smaller garage on Portage Rd in Kalamazoo.

I actually work about a half mile north of Claudio's shop. Like you, I do 99.9% of my own wrenching, and only reach out to someone when I'm either totally stumped, or I have no other options. That being said, I've heard good things about Claudio, but I do not have any personal experience with him or his work. For another option, I've also heard good things about these guys https://www.flyingdoggarage.com although again, I don't have any personal experience with them. Hopefully one of the options suggested will work out for you.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm an hour away from Kalamazoo, but could probably get one of these places to do the work if no one more locally will. As BobnOH said, this isn't TDI specific stuff. I try to do whatever I can on the car. I will be doing the timing belt and water pump soon. Thinking about putting an 11mm fuel pump in at that time.
