This started with difficulty with cold starts at -7F or cooler with my wife's 2011 VW TDI wagon with 170K, no CEL. Currently I have reoccuring P032100 P13D900 P13D600. Pressure in cylinder 3 and 4 not plausible. P032100 isn't explained to me yet. I only notice any rough starting after it sits overnight cold. At temperature it's been normal. Fuel tank is full. I was curious if it was fuel delivery related but don't know. Here's what I did in this order:
1. I replaced the OEM battery with a optima yellow top that at least has specs at or exceeding the OEM battery because that's what was available where I live, to address hard to crank in cold weather. Alternator is charging at 14+ volts.
2. I next had a fault code for glow plug 2 open circuit within 10 days of that battery replacement. I used a test light and it failed when I sent 12V to it. I also failed a resistance test with a multimeter after I pulled it and replaced all 4 glow plugs with non OEM plugs from a parts store. I had a repeat install of glow plug 2 due to a bad part, but that's resolved.
3. I installed a new fuel filter and topped off fuel tank.
4. P13S600 and P13S900 appeared after the car started cold in 20F-30F weather and glow plug replacements. I noticed a rough idle for 5-10 seconds and then normal running. I pulled both plugs 3/4 and found carbon/soot build up where the glow plug seats yesterday. Carbon all along the barrel of the glow plug in 4. I used a 7mm gun bore cleaning brush, plastic, and a plastic pic set and cleared debris from the housing of the glow plug and threads, using WD40 and carburetor cleaner. Compressed air to keep as much out of the car as I could. Painfully slow process and I should be a dental hygienist after doing that job with those tools. I used 99% isopropyl to clean the plugs and reinstalled.
P032100 P13D900 P13S600 codes reappeared after starting the car next day. It seems to run better actually, but still throwing those codes, and now a third for the camshaft position sensor or something? P032100 is new today. This mornings cold start was as smooth as it's ever been and I thought I'd resolved it until the CEL popped on after running for 1-2 minutes.
What would you do?
