I have heard of people converting the diesel tank to WVO, and squeezing a small tank under the hood. That might actually work in a warm place like Hawaii.

I knew someone who had a roof tank, but that isn't a very good idea.

thanks guys. I have a 40 gallon grease car tank leftover from when I redid my F350s system so I will probably have someone cut that up for me and reweld (hopefully). I just don't want to install it inside the car since its a wagon.

You are right, there probably will be some smell inside the car. If you decide to use the spare tire well, you could build a tight cover over it, with a remote filler. And vent the tank to the outside.

Getting a used veg tank clean enough to get it prepped for re-weld might be kinda tricky. It's not impossible, but depending on how the inside looks it could be a lot of work for a good weld

If you are willing to mount a side exit exhaust there is a lot of room in the exhaust tunnel.
Take a look underneath and you'll see what I mean.
I would make the tank out of 6" or so pipe. Very easy to fabricate.;)

I have to ask if you have experience with welding? Theres no way any type of grease is going to get in the way of 1000 degree melted aluminum. I have a pretty good idea of cutting down the 40 gallon tank its just I don't have my jetta near me right now and not really sure what the underside looks like.

I'm not trying to criticize any welding skill you have. I only have a little. My buddy had a similar project of cutting down an old 40 gal tank that had been sitting for 2 years or so. It had some polymerization and was pretty beat up, If i remember correctly he welded it but it wasn't the cleanest weld.

The little experience I do have tells me to always clean extremely well prior to welding, bc any dirt or grease that gets mixed up with the melted pool can compromise the weld. I was just saying that because if you do put the tank in the trunk, a bad weld is way worse than some fumes.

thanks for the concern but the whole point of this thread is tank placement outside of the vehicle.

The main way to do this in the UK is to use the main tank for the wvo and the seperate tank for startup.

The startup tank in mines is a 22 litre fuel tank for a boat, it's only used for about 2 miles before I can switch over to WVO so it lasts a while.

How about cutting out the spare wheel well and making that flat inside, then mount the tank outside where the spare wheel well was.

I'm thinking of making an auxilliary diesel tank to fit in this location, if not a tank to store race fuel for my dirt bike.....;)
