I'm picking up new car at Mitchell tomorrow. I want to transfer my old TDI plates to new car, but salesman is telling me I have to get new plates for new car and keep registration of the TDI for the buyback. Any validation to this? Any CT people turn in unregistered/plateless care at appointment time?

hey all, got my final and approved offer letter from VW on DEC 11. Booked the first free appointment at Crowley VW in Plainville which was 1/11/2017. Looks like that dealership is not on the fast track like the Avon/Canton one. I could move it but it gives me time to get my next car all sorted out. I purchased my last 3 cars from crowley so it was almost muscle memory to pick them. I had financed my car through vw credit.

I kept the reg and plates on my golf for my turn in on Saturday. I was under the impression that it was required. After reading some other threads it looks like that may have not been necessary. I'm probably going to drive the car down to Mitchell prior to the snow this weekend (the tires are best suited for race tracks at this point). What car are you picking up today?

Got my offer today and returned it. Amount was correct. Wonder when the appointment email will come. I want to delay it until after Dec 25.

Update: Got the appointment. Jan 5 at Old Saybrook One day turnaround after uploading offer sheet. Amount is correct.

I have uploaded the signed final offer Sunday and am waiting patiently for the first available since I can only put another 800 miles till I loose more money and already have a replacement for the 11 Golf. The 14 Passat is about 3 weeks behind in the process since I didn't want to deal with replacing two cars in a week

Just submitted our signed and notarized offer acceptance seconds ago, after coming back from an afternoon of test drives. We'll see what happens next.

Turning in our 2013 Golf on 1/6/17
We made our appointment last week. Returning to Langan in Glastonbury.

Has anyone that turned in gotten really good deals on a new VW?

That'll be a deciding factor if we stay with VW this time around.

I got an Alltrack SEL for 3K under MSRP, but that wasn't tied to loyalty incentives or anything. I got that through USAA.

Is VW finally part of the USAA new car program? That would be great.
I used it for my Sprinter.

Good to know. Thanks. I'm mulling over getting a GTI. Not sure yet though.

They are. I bought my last two VWs and Honda that way.

That didn't take long. Acceptance paperwork was accepted tonight. We're holding off on scheduling our return until I get back from Florida on Tuesday. We're still debating what to replace the Passat with, and what we pick will determine which dealer we return the car to.

I just got back from my appointment at Mitchell in Canton. I dropped the car off last night before the snow came in. I'm glad I did since plowing CT-179 was apparently not on the list of priorities this morning. Anyway, dropping it off early actually helped everything. The buyback guy told me when I got there that he had already done everything with the car that was necessary. I signed the odo statement and the PoA for them to handle the title. Then I gave them the title and left. That's about it. The guy was really nice too so it was pretty pleasant.

I also was able to take the Alltrack out in the snow for the first time. That thing is a champ in the snow. It was solid on hills and turns. I had to try to get that thing to slip.

2011 JSW TDI/DSG 35k $23,147 buyback
My buyback appointment is this Tuesday 12/20 at Valenti VW in Watertown for my 2011 JSW, which I booked on 11/15. The buyback figure in my reminder email received a few days ago is about $500 higher than the consistent amount they gave all through the process, so we'll see if that holds when I get there. I chose EFT and have no financing or liens.

Already bought my replacement in early September at Crowley VW/Plainville, a new 2016 GTI S that I got at ~$5000 below MSRP, which I've been driving since and have kept the JSW parked until buyback. JSW is in excellent condition with low mileage (35k for a 2011), even has original tires & brakes. Aside from paying tax on the new GTI, what I get back will make the replacement close to a wash.

One question if anyone knows - what happens with the plates if I'm not transferring? Will I have to take them back to DMV myself or does VW handle that aspect as well?

i never got the reminder email. Everything was set when i got there, but i was a little apprehensive because i never got an email. They had the plates available for me to pick up on my way out. However, we were a little too focused on getting back on the road before any more snow fell and we forgot to pick them up. I will probably call them on monday to see if I can pick them up. I have a collection of all the plates and states that I have lived in over the years. Kind of a memento of the past.

You can cancel your plates on the DMV website. If you aren't going to use them again, you can simply dispose of them. That is what I did with my lease return a few months ago and with my mother-in-law's two cars at the beginning of the year.

I figured that the cancellation would have been automatic, but I checked the DMV website and it says that my reg is still active. When I start through the steps to cancel the reg the website now says that it can't find the registration. Maybe I will give them a call.

When I moved from CT a few years ago, I returned my old plates to the DMV and requested a receipt. If you don't return them, you may get billed for property taxes.

If you want to keep your plate but don't have a vehicle to use them on just return to DMV and ask them to hold them in your name .
You won't get billed property tax .

I just canceled my plates/reg on the CT DMV website. On sunday the system said that it couldn't find the car. Today it found it just fine. When I went through the process it allowed me to specify that I sold the car and retained the plates. Technically, the plates are still at Mitchell VW since I left immediately in the snow last weekend to get my Alltrack back on the snowy roads. I was so excited for more fun snowy driving that I forgot to grab the plates on my way out. I also completely forgot that I had made an appointment to get a fastener replaced on the interior of the Alltrack. Oh well, it was a great drive.

Weird. I don't believe Volkswagen will do anything about your registration, so it could be the DMV. Wouldn't be the first time.

The system changed when they went through a computer upgrade in the middle of last year. Now everything is done online.

And it was surprisingly easy. I think that the system was just having issues when I tried to cancel everything over the weekend. It canceled just fine today. I printed a receipt to take to the tax-man in town.

A no-show at buyback

I completed the buyback on Dec 13 in Greenwich, CT.
I was scheduled for a 10 AM appointment but the settlement specialist did not show up. After complaining bitterly to the sales manager, calls were made and the newbie specialists's trainer showed up an hour late and completed the transaction by 11:30 AM.
The ETF funds appeared in my bank account on Dec 16.
