Garage door malfunction knocked off my antenna. Found a clean replacement base from a 02 Jetta at the junk yard. The connector from the base to the cable was under a foam piece attached to the roof. Trying to install the new base in my 03 Golf and the connector cable seems to route itself to a heavy duty plate above the hatch with no easy access to remove the plate and make the connection Anyone dealt with this ? Were there some changes in the later model MK4's for routing of the connector cable? Any and all help greatly appreciated .

Thanks,

I know I have a brand new OEM base I bought for my 03 Jetta and never got around to installing. Can't remember if they are different between years but I'd think all mk4 use same base

There is a nut, that attaches the base under the headliner. You have to get under the headliner to replace and plug the new base in

Thanks for the reply. I have the base, the problem I am having is once it is installed that connector from the base needs to connect to the conduit that leads to the radio. I can't seem to locate that "connecting wire ". I have seen it both on You Tube and the junk yard as wire +connector under the headliner and attached to the inside of the roof. In my Golf that is not the situation, the wire from the base routes back to the hatch and then disappears. I am wondering if this was a change to the 03 MK 4 models or just the Golf ?

Yea there should be the wire that leads from the base to the deck, and gets a little thick. I personally don't like the company but if you check Canada catalyst - to help you. You can look and purchase the wiring and hope it goes through alright

The wire from the base routes back directly to hole in a plate above the rear hatch. I see where the wire goes and assume the connector is behind it. I just cannot figure out how to remove the plate without removing the hatch. I am searching for a easier solution. Normally I am pretty good as simple jobs like this one. But I am stumped and hoping someone ran across this issue as well.

Also, if the price is right I might take that OEM base off your hands.

Thanks

PM a price you think is fair shipped, I don't feel like installing it in the Jetta anytime soon so I'd consider just letting it go

Wires into the hatch? That makes no sense. Can you take pictures? I did mine on my 06 Golf a few years ago. Only tricky part was figuring out how to disconnect the cable, and once I figured it out I told myself to remember for next time, but I forgot.

I know it makes no sense- but I traced the wire from the base on a junk yard Golf and also on mine. Same thing.( maybe not on the hatch itself, have to check again ) but above it for sure- and yes the wire goes from the antenna base back to a plate at the rear, and not to the inside roof as I have seen on junk yard Jettas. I might have to remove the headliner to get a good picture. Thanks for the input.

Well yes, you need to remove it, at least partially, to expose that connector, which should be there right in front of you
