when i picked up my car and did the final inspection, i noticed a paint blemish near my rear fender, i pointed it out to my salesman who in turn called the service mngr who then said vw will take care of the blemish, and oh we will supply you with a rental and booked the appointment, hmm nice. i dropped the vehicle off today, they phoned the rental place, somebody came and got me and brought me to the rental place. they set me up with a hyudai something:eek: whatever its not on my dime. so im ready to take the car and the gentleman asked about insurance:confused: yes vw will pay for the rental but not insurance. $25 a day out of my pocket. i could not transfer my insurance for the jetta over to the rental because it will leave my car uninsured and the dealership will not put it under theirs even if they have possesion of it for warranty work because of a factory defect on a 3 week old car w/1000 km on it! even my salesman could not believe it. the service manager is gone for a couple of days, he suggested to talk to him when he gets back about being reimbursed. im not holding my breath. so when i answer neither to the original question of NORDEN vw OR SOUTHGATE vw , this is why,, good luck all! p.s. picked up fuchs oil and mann filters today, they will not be touching my car unless for warranty work! which im sure it will again cost me some how!

Strange that they didn't provide you with a loaner car. In EVERY case where I've had warranty repairs made, I asked for a loaner and was provided with one free of charge. One dealer did rent a car for me, and paid the tab.

I can understand not providing transportation for maintenance or repairs, but warranty work is a different thing all togther. It's a defect in the car that is an inconvienence to the owner who is PAYING to drive a car they can't drive while it's in for warranty work. It's only fair the dealer or manufacturer pick up the tab or provide you with comparable transportation.

It also assures they get your car done faster so they don't have you tooling around in their car or running up rental rates.

Where I live loaner cars are now very uncommon, not sure of the reason but something to do with a tax write-off or something, with that said most will set you up with a rental but in my case (and in most cases I assume) your insurance policy should cover a rental. The insurance is usually a way for them to scam a few bucks out of you, you should check your policy.
My dealer does have a couple of loaners and i'm actually driving one today. My car is getting a bunch of scratches fixed which were caused by the dude that changed the back glass.

A good car insurance policy will cover you in a rental car. I never buy extra insurance, it's an obvious rip-off.

^x2 I've never paid for the insurance on a rental. My auto insurance covers it, yours may too?

insurance co. told me i could tranfer ins. but it would have left my car uninsured:confused:. then my dealer turns around and tells me my car will not fall under their insurance even though they have it and drive it to their repair facility, i must have my own coverage if something were to happen:mad: i bought the car 3 weeks ago . nice accountability huh.

***?!?!?! First of all, you shouldn't be "transferring" the insurance. All you need to do is call and make sure your insurance covers you in the rental vehicle. If it's with a reputable company, and it is full coverage and not just liability (which I assume it is if you got a loan for the car), then it should cover you.

My insurance company covers any damage to a rental minus my deductable. My credit card company covers the difference.

Your credit card will cover you if you're paying the rental with your card, this being a rental where the dealer is picking up the tab i'm not sure if it applies. Either way, any reputable insurance company covers a rental, if it doesn't, you may want to shop elsewhere.

p.s. I work for an insurance company. :D

Around here, the rental company still wants a credit card number, even though the dealer(actually the manufacturer) is picking up the tab. I'll bet they know the CC company covers, so they don't have to fight with the dealer over who's responsible for damage.

Here's more from the same "stealership".....

I had my 11 Jetta in for the recall as well as a "clunking" noise from the front end.

They sent me to the same Budget rent-a-box outlet (got a Nissan micro-box) where I had to produce my CC because my car wasn't being kept overnight and I had to pay. Being from out-of-town, we needed something to get around with.

Well, the clunking noise ended up being a set of bushings / spacers that were MIA from factory. They now were keeping the car overnight, and ordered the missing parts.

Fast forward to late the next day, return the rental (stealership pays for rental if they keep mine overnight) and was advised I had to pay for one day (I had it for 1.5 days).

I strongly objected, they called Norden, and was told that this was policy by the Service Advisor. I asked for the manager and he ended up covering for the entire rental. It helps that I was working as a Service Advisor in the past.

It doesn't matter what "stealership" you buy a new car from in this part of Canada, they don't have "loaners" to give out.

As for my personal car insurance, I did enquire about rental coverage and you have to buy this seperate (SEF 27 or 37, I believe) for an additional fee.

you were dealing with the EXACT same people as me, they kept the receipts i submitted for consideration of a refund of the $77 i shelled out for 3day rental ins. i politely pointed out that i returned the rental after 3 days, and they had my car for 1 week thus saving them 4 days rental ($112)! all i want is my $77! i shelled out $30000 for the car 4 weeks ago, saved them $112 on the rental, AND THEY NEED TO THINK ABOUT THE REFUND???

I really didn't shell out anything for the rental, other than a CC imprint. (pre-authorization)

When the time came to pay up, I had Budget call the Service Counter and they simply provided a Purchase Order number. (upon my request to speak to the manager)
