I already have the DG steel skidplate (definately should come from the factory this way, has easily saved me multiple oil pans!) - is the panzer retrofittable, does it mount the same way? Biggest two things that I don't like about the steel one is having to fish the bars in the side skirt R/R the one side skirt while trying to balance the whole plate and start the bolts, and every time I tag a driveway or something real good, my bypass filter buzzes on the skid plate when the engine rocks when taking off in 1st gear. Then I have to take it off, support it on the two arms and jump on it in the middle to straighten it out. If these two issues went away, along with the lighter weight and slightly more ground clearance might get me to buy another
The Panzer bolts right up to the same exact spots that your steel plate bolt to. Putting the Panzer on after a service doesn't require the ballet act of fishing the bars through the side skirt holes like the steel plate does. The lower weight helps a LOT. The Panzer was designed to be immensely strong in the front center so the driveway problem will likely go away as well.

panzer skid plate on a 2006 jetta

I am trading in my 04 tdi for an 06. Will the panzer skid plate from the 04 fit on the 06? I still have the original and could put it back on for the trade.
thanks,
steve

Saved by the skid plate

I don't have to worry about winter time ice balls here in the Tampa area like some of you in the colder climates do, but I did catch a large shovel the other day. It was at a very busy high speed merge near the Tampa airport. I glanced into the rear view checking for merge clearance, and then a big shovel (looked like a snow shovel) came shooting across the road and my 2001 Golf went right over it. So did the next three cars. I couldn't see any results from the stray shovel past that point.

I couldn't detect any issues with my car. I pulled off when I could and did a quick inspection, and did a better one in the driveway at home. No, the car did not miss the shovel. There was a loud bang as I went over it. Thanks, DieselGeek, for the skid plate. No damage at all. I have not put one on my 2004 Passat TDI (Variant) yet, but I sure am going to as soon as I can.:) :)

I just installed the panzer, only took me about an hour! I had some trouble with the rear passenger side bolt not lining up easily, but I got it to work out. Looks great. When I left the driveway, I could here the skidplate doing its job, very satisfied.

Great product and 1100 miles to evaluate.

Drove 2200+ miles in four days for my new Panzer plate.
Jennifer and I just drove back from Austin, TX and we had the opportuity to meet JIM and put a Panzer plate on our 2005 Passat TDI Wagon.

Wow, what a great product! No squeaks rattles or modifications are needed with the Diesel Geek product and we could not be happier with the incredible protection we now have underneath of our car.

I corrected an earlier posting of mine referencing Canadian shipping:

"We have recently switched to the U.S. Postal Service for all of our international shipments. We switched to USPS to save our international customers the high FedEx Customs brokerage fees. This website still calculates FedEx rates and still suggests that we use FedEx but we now only use USPS for all international shipments. Cost for shipping varies by product and address.

To successfully calculate shipping rates for an international order, customers must fill out information on all order pages. On the "Invoice/Receipt" page you will see the shipping calculation specific to your address. You may cancel the order without being charged if you do not wish to order. Please note that we do not guarantee shipping times.

If you find that your stock side panels are too far gone to reuse then the replacement side panels should be ordered separately from the skid plate so that we collect the required amount of shipping fees (MKIV Panzer only)."

Panzer plate install question

In the instructions for installing the Panzer, it says after the mounting
post rivnuts are installed and torqued, to loosen the bolts in them as the slack will be needed when the plate is mounted.

When do I tighten them then? I won't be able to reach them after the
plate is mounted, will I?

Never mind. I called Jim and he was kind enough to call me
back with the answer:

You can access those mounting post bolts after the plate is installed.

Just got mine installed on my '01 Golf TDI. Excellent product. Install was easy. Instructions were great. Jim was very helpful. I struggled to decide between the evolution plate and the dieselgeek one. I did not like the product bashing the evolution people did. Jim impressed me as being very professional. Attitude and customer service are very important to me. Just my 02 cents worth.

Thanks to Jim for the fine product and Bruce for the video.
Very easy install.
I think it took longer to line up the tools, get the car on the ramp and grease the nuts than it did to actually install the plate.

Are you making fun of my Kentucky speech patterns, phrasing, and accent! LOL :) :D .

If you liked that, imagine the guy in England trying to understand me when using the intake cleaning video. ;) :p

Guys, you don't need me to install these. Best written instructions I've seen in a long time.

Good for you, Jim!

If you do sell one up Cinci way, maybe RichC and I can work something out with the owner, though.
