just purchased a 13 with 40K miles. Drives like a dream as far as I'm concerned. I still own my 2005 Jetta TDI, which has 200K miles with original engine, turbo (yes) and trans. Still runs great, but I rarely drive her anymore.

Anyway, I think I did a good job researching all major issues with these cars, but I was curious about what the average oil change will will run me? Also, is the fuel filter as easy to replace as the previous gen Jetta's? Seems like it's in the same place.

Thanks for responses.

Congrats on the new vehicle. Oil change at a dealer could be anywhere from $60-$100, but there's a list in one of these forums that has trusted VW mechanics listed in different states if you don't want to wrench on it yourself.

I try and buy my oil and filters in bulk from trusted TDI vendors like IDparts etc, which assures you get the appropriate 507.00 oil and helps keep individual item costs down and bring you way under what most places will charge you to do it for. Also great opportunity to become closely acquainted with the finer details of your vehicle so she runs like a dream and for as long as that '05 of yours. Then be sure to recycle the oil.

The fuel filter is simple if you're mindful about over splash and trying to purge and remove as much air from the system as you can before you button it up. Make sure to identify what cover you have so you order the correct filter style, since it's a '13 I'm guessing its the later single-hole style, but you should still confirm.

Another question, last oil change was 7k miles ago but it's saying service due now, what's the interval change? In my 05 I never went past about 3,500K just to keep it on the safe side.

10k is the service interval. 3.5k is nothing but a waste and rather absurd, it didn't keep anything on the safe side just a waste of time and money.

Thanks for the info that's what I thought. But back to my Jetta, have you ever owned a TDI with a PD engine? If you have, you would know it's better to change that oil more often than not! That crankshaft is doing double duty!

10k is the PD interval, changing it early any won't make a difference. Just make sure you're using a VW 505.01 5W-40 spec oil. Although this clubs camshaft guru recommends Shaefers 9000 5w-40. The "crankshaft" has nothing to do with it.
