I've read through the nemerous posts concerning Vagcom and the Faulty ACM. This thread in particular has provided some great insight. Thanks Uwe, for explaining how to remove the airbag scan from the autoscan.txt.

I have the problem ACM in my 2000 golf. Recently I replaced my steering wheel with an upgrade, and in so doing managed to throw an Airbag light.

So that's it, I've been driving around with this light on. I haven't scanned it yet. I want to be sure of the proper procedure. Can I clear the codes, if they will clear. Should I post the codes from Vagcom here first?

Oh, I have a Key-USB cable, and using v607

Make sure the battery is well-charged and scan it. There are no guarantees in life, but using a current VC is as safe as it can be -- IMO safer than the dealers' tool.

Look at it this way: The only other option is to take it to the dealer and pay them to do it. But if their tool sets the 65535, they're gonna tell you "you need a new airbag controller" and you'll be out the additional $50-$100 for the initial scan as well.
