Annoying Rattle in the B Column Driver Side

I have a new 2014 Passat and have started to notice an annoying rattle somewhere in the driver side B column. Of course, its right by my left ear. The noise sounds something like bass rattle from music on glass, even though I get this noise when the radio is off. I've tried rolling the window down, adjusting my seat belt shoulder mount and various banging on the door, window and B column with my elbow. It doesn't happen all the time, and fortunately stays around for only several seconds.

It seems to be at its worst on the interstate, so it could have something to do with road noise transmission (I can't wait to get rid of these crummy Hankooks and replace them with Micheline Primacys down the road....)

Didn't know if anyone else has this issue and have been able to pinpoint it.

Ive had the same issue.


For some reason I feel like its in the welds of the b-pillar, its internal the noise no doubt. Something metal on metal. Mine doesnt do it over bumps, but on the interstate like yours, its comes with bigger dips, and small dips on a long sweeping turn rather than driving over bumps and gravel like situations.

I have this rattle on my 2013 and it drives me up the wall, the dealer thought it was the door and tried fixing that, after a few more miles I now know it is the B pillar, I will get it looked at the next time it is in

welcome to the POS plastic interior ... i've had them address the rattles from the dash (sound bar), front passenger door panel (the fixed this one, but did not reconnect the unlock/lock switch), hvac makes loud air-noises and limited air flow through vents (this is after the 20k service), front of dash makes annoying rattle noises brough on by certain frequencys when the radio is on and or im in a low gear and low rpm and the drivetrain lugs causing the rattles... i have rattles coming from the rear of the headliner, passenger area right side rear (door panel or pillar)... etc.. i can keep on going on with the plastic cheap quality interior in our passat. This is our biggest pet peeve and one of the main issues why we plan on selling it by the end of the year. If i get another "german-engineered vehicle", then back to BMW it is. excuse my rant but the rattle thing just ticks me off

I definitely don't hear a rattle but I do hear a rather loud sound coming from the B pillar when going thru big bumps. Went to the dealer twice and reported that it was "fine".

After three attempts by the dealer to fix this they have done it, the door latch was not properly aligned, adjusted door latch and all is good.

I have the maraca sound somewhere on the passenger side, but can't tell where. It manifests itself at odd times.
