Just checked your eBay store didn't see what I need, 2001 beetle TDI 5 speed alternator and starter. Doing timing belt I want all that replaced, original alternator and Chinese rebuilt starter

I don't have those up on ebay as its hard to compete with the cheap Chinese ones on there, so I just sell them on the forums. If you message me I can get an order reserved for you.

Buy directly from @Mozambiquer. Save him the ebay fees (I don't know what they are, but it's gotta be something) - he's a great seller who does quality work. I've bought I think three refurb'd starters from him now and they all come looking brand new.

Here is what I have been doing a bunch of lately. V6 TDI guys, rejoice! I have been doing a lot of the V6 TDI alternators and have both new and remanufactured in stock. New OEM ones are $545 for 2009-2011 with the Valeo 220 amp alternator and solid pulley, 2012-2016 with the Valeo 220 amp alternator and clutch pulley are $595. The 2007-2011 Audi Q7 with Hitachi alternator and solid pulley are $365 remanufactured and 2012-2016 Q7 and A8 with Hitachi alternator with clutch pulley are $415 remanufactured
The Solid pulley remanufactured ones are $345 and clutch pulley remanufactured are $395. I also have the 180 amp A6/Q5 remanufactured for $395

I've a 2003 Golf 5-speed that's had intermittent electrical issues for a while. 150k miles on the car, original alternator. It always starts, and the beeping sounds (ABS, ESP warnings) eventually go away, if they're even there to start with. Turning key to off will sometimes clear the clock and the trip meter. Stepping on brakes can dim my dash and headlights while car is driving.

Do these symptoms point to a failing alternator or voltage regulator? What do I gain by opting for a higher output model, like 180 Amp?

The only one of those that may point to a failing or weak alternator is the dimming of the dash and headlights when you push the brakes. In general, unless you're running higher pull devices, as in sound systems, lights, or other high drain devices, the stock one is more than enough. The auto ones used a 90 amp alternator, and even the manual ones would do fine with that for most of the time.

Aftermarket parts rebuild kit for 120-180 amp alternators $45 plus shipping
Do you have a parts kit minus the pulley? I bought a pulley to smooth out a bouncy tensioner and then looking through my service records realized I replaced the tensioner, alternator pulley, and idler pulley about 70K ago, but pretty sure I'm still on the factory alternator. Won't know for sure until I get the belt off but with 280K on the clock thinking might be time to rebuild ye ol Bosch.

Mk5/6 TDI flash sale! My supplier had the starters and alternators for mk5/mk6 tdis.
The alternators are new oem 140 amp Valeo which are for 2005.5-2014 tdis. Also works on some of the gassers, or with a pulley swap, they work on the 2015 jetta/beetle,, or with a pulley and regulator swap they work on the 2015 Golf and Sportwagen.
They are normally $315 but are on sale for $285
The starters are for the 2009-2014 Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Sportwagen and Passat with the 6 speed manual.
I normally sell them for $205 and have them on sale for $175

Is it kinda a wheeze sound that is for about a second after you stop cranking? There is a common issue with them where the bushing gets worn and it makes a wheeze sound. I sell a rebuild kit that includes that bushing and the seal with the brush holder kit. Also have the one with a that and a solenoid.
The full kit with the solenoid includes the solenoid hardware and front bushing as well as the brush holder and is $45 plus shipping. The kit with just the bushing, seal and brush holder is $25 plus shipping.
This is what my sons car does. I would like to rebuild it.

Any MKIV alternators in stock? I didn't see one in the Ebay store.
Yes, I have them in stock they are ones that on the eBay store is not really worth putting them up there because of all of the cheap junk ones and so the good ones don't really move. EBay is kind of an odd Marketplace LOL

Hey I wonder if you can point me in the right direction here; my Cummins’ starter is in need of a set of these heavy duty contacts and plunger but Larry B’s doesn’t ship to Canada and Geno’s wants $35 US to ship a $20 part. Is this something you would stock or if not do you have an idea where to buy a quality set?

Edit: I found a small local rebuild shop that happened to have a set of the heavier contacts and plunger kicking around, for $40 after tax.
Pretty neat shop, German fellow runs it and they also sell a ton of LiquiMoly products and I also saw a bunch of Mann filters on the shelf. Seems they’re also into Volkswagen’s, and there was a Golf City out front with a for sale sign.

What is a general life expectancy of those ALH stock (hitachi?) alternators ?
I replaced the battery on my kids golf, but we will see if it’s the alternator that needs replacing - if it is - I know where to go to get one !
@Mozambiquer- you ship often to Canada ?

Retired from auto repair .
One of the things I learned with any / all starting - charging systems .
I the owner disregards symptoms of any of the above - 1st typically is slow turn-over / hard starts [ lack of maintenance ] at least 2 , of not all 3 will need to be replaced , within a short time of the others .
As a suggestion , slow turn-over = battery loosing capacity [ near its normal life ] --- that is hard on both the starter & alternator .
That is aside from wrong diagnostics --- I like to confirm any failure with multiple tests .
