I received my offer yesterday and it is 500 less than the calculator. I suspect this is because I haven't drove it since submitting my claim and VW assumes I'm driving it 12k miles a year, so they have moved me into the next mileage bracket.
Should i submit the paperwork as is (i really dont care about the $500) but my fear is they will cancel my buyback at my appointment and I will have to reschedule.
Various commenters have said that as long as you're being paid through EFT, you can keep your appointment and the amount will be adjusted when paid.

My apologies if this has been gone over before, but here goes. My buyback appt is this thursday, and VW sent me a reminder email. In the reminder email they stated after loan payoff I would be receiving a total of $11,955.02. So putting back in the amount they think my loan payoff is $6,661.71 (it's actually about $1k less than that) comes up with a calculated value of buyback and emissions payment of $18616.73. When I do the calculations by hand from the tables on the FTC website I get a total of $23,719! That's a little more than the $60 of the OP! I also tried it on several of the online calculators and got the same numbers as my hand calculations.

Has anyone else had the difference so large as this? What should I do when I go to the buyback appt? Any insight would very much appreciated!

Thanks!

You aren't adding the two columns together when you do the manual calculation, are you? Because you shouldn't be doing that.

Yup, that's what I did. The language is very confusing, so why the two different columns then? Thanks for the clarification! When I back off the emissions amount from the number in the first column he numbers are much closer!

The first column is what they'll pay for the buyback; the second is what they'll pay for the fix (if/when one becomes available). Any remaining discrepancy is likely due to differing assumptions/calculations on mileage.

Plus for buyback calcs, the second column is needed if you have excessive mileage that drops the compensation portion below $5100 dollars, so you can calculate the "add in" to get you back to $5100, which is the floor.

You're right, they don't use the clearest language. You can double check your numbers with one of the online buyback calculators.
