OK - I got my 110hp TDI Octavia ..

Now I tried to unplug the EGR connector from the solenoid
- It's damn tight !! Is there some trick to take it off !?
Probably the connector has some sort of detent (or whatever) ..
But I didn't figure out it yet

I think it's better to ask than to use the brute force !!
(Especially with these fragile plastic things..)

I just did it yesterday to my 90.
I could practice on the more-accessible turbo solenoid valve.
Just push in the plastic detent and pull.
At least it's not winter when plastic things break easier. Hmmm, I wonder if that applies to Saturns...
You could also just take off the vacuum hose to the egr valve.

Yes I did notice the turbo solenoid too ..

But which detent you mean ??
It seems to me that there could be kind of
spring detent on the facing side ..
And then there is hollow longitudal thingy
underside of the plug.

I just didn't figure it yet ..

(I assume you mean the detent underside..)

Oh man - how those little things can resist sometimes ..

sorry to be off topic,

Karl, about the plastic saturns in the winter. . . BOOM exploding shards of plastic everywhere. A friend was t-boned by his room mate when my friend's saturn turned purpendicular to the road and his roommate plowed right into the side of the car plastic every where (it was only 5 degrees F)

On topic.
All the electrical plugs have a tab that has to be pulled out (more kinda back away from teh socket) some are tricky some are just plain stubborn. Don't even bother to try and remove the plug if you haven't acheived the 'click' from relasing the 'clip'. Confused, I hope I am not

Karl Roenick: "Just push in the plastic detent.."

GeWilli: "..tab that has to be pulled out.."

'push in' vs. 'pull out' !?!

You are referring to a tab or detent - which is what !?!
(Could there be different plugs !?! I have similar also at the washer pump ..)

Yes I'm stupid & confused !!
(I hate those car connectors - I don't have any problems ever with any other connectors !!)

On my TDI the vacuum line going to the EGR valve has a small metal strap that holds the hose on very securely. I had to cut this metal crimped on strap using a wire cutter. Now I can connect and disconnect the hose easily.

The other way is to disconnect the wiring from the EGR's solenoid. You follow the EGR vaccum hose to find this solenoid. All the wiring connectors have a little catch on the bottom. You can not see it easily until after you take it off. Basically you put your fingers under the connector and pull towards you - hopefully you will also be pulling the release tab towards you too. You may find it easier to practice with the MAP wiring connector which is larger but very similar.

PWM: You probably don't need to disconnect anything electrical. Since you live in Europe your car doesn't have the U.S./Canadian On-board Diagnostics. I could be wrong, but I believe that all you need to do to defeat the EGR is to pull the vacuum hose off the EGR valve and stick a plug in the hose. (Like a screw or something.) The default position of the valve is CLOSED, so you don't need to do anything mechanical. And without OBD II your car's computer gets no feedback on the operation of the valve, so it'll never know anything is wrong. This is true of earlier TDIs, anyway, and I think your new car is probably the same.

OK - I figured it out !!

The plug did indeed have small tab in the wire end.
(The tab is underside of the plug and in the end of the longitudal plastic thing.
Just try to pull the end with nail .. pushing plug IN could help also.)

Actually very silly thing .. now that I know

So I didn't want to cut the metal strap on the vacuum hose ..
Now it's very easy to undo - just plug it in ..
(There could be a risk when it's needed to pass the emission tests
)

And now no EGR and no lights or anything !!

Guess who is happy now

And thanks a lot for answers !!
